I've tried Simple CSS, and most of the code here to change the gray active state and the blue hover state. None of it works. Please help!

You can try add in PageLines > Site Options > Custom Code > CSS Rules
.dropdown.open .dropdown-toggle, .dropdown.open .dropdown-toggle:hover {background:rgba(0,136,204,0.1);}
You can change 0,136,204 with the color as you like You can change 0.1 with the transparency as you like

Hi, Simple CSS Lite is only for the Nav Classic navigation section. If you wish to change the active and hover state for the main menu items, use the code batman supplied above and change the color to anything you wish. To change the blue hover effect on the drop down menu use the following code:
.dropdown-menu li > a:hover, .dropdown-menu .active > a, .dropdown-menu .active > a:hover, #site .dropdown-menu .current-menu-item > a { background-color: pink; }
Wow, thank you! It all worked. I should have asked before spending so much time on this.
