Easy Method to Create A Helpful 404 Message

I've been looking for weeks to find an easy way to add text to the 404 page. I found I could add a Masthead to the Page Template of the 404 page. I could enter text, HTML, and an image. Click Drag & Drop/Template Setup/Page Templates/404 Drag Masthead to Active Sections. Any disadvantages to this method?

There shouldn't be any disadvantages. We provide the 404 as a template to allow you the opportunity to customize it. Though I'd also suggest including a Universal or other sidebar to which you include a search field if one doesn't show by default.
