Rich snippets with Framework

Recommended Posts

Hi, Yes of course, that is how I know about the warning messages. I get exactly the same ones as the user who started the other thread. (excluding the first one referring to the entry-title, that is fine on my site.)

Hi, What is the error you're receiving, as you have linked to a post regarding Platform Pro which doesn't support this.

I take it the errors you are talking about are:

Warning: Missing required field "updated".
	Warning: Missing required hCard "author".

They would be populated if the URL was a blog post with meta fields, but the URL you are testing is just a static page.

Yes of course but static pages can have a rich snippet too, not just posts. If you google 'missing required field updated' it brings up lots of sites offering a similar way to solve this, my problem is that I don't know how to do that with the Framework, which file to edit, etc.

Yes but what im saying is, your static page does not show anywhere an authors name, or when it was posted. Like Page by Simon, written on 26 Jul 1986, THAT would have rich snippet data.

Simon, Can you please read the forum post that I refer to in my original post? I know static pages are different but it seems people online refer to static pages when offering the solution, I may be wrong but I know of static wordpress pages on the web that come up with rich snippets in google results. The user says: Upon searching the world on these errors, below seems to make the most sense and have the easiest fix but I have no idea where to fix it. The article refers to my SinglePost.php, loop.php & Sesrch.php Templates, but every theme is different and I can't find these sections they refer to in mine. I know I should do this is a Platform Base template(s) but their all pretty empty. Can I get a little help as far as where I can place these "hacks"? Now, index.php and singlepost.php or single.php etc, do these files only control blog posts? because these are the files people suggest to edit to fix the warnings. Also, if you could explain what you answered to him: Rich snippets are not supported in PlatformPro, its built into Framework 2.0 though. Thank you, Istvan

Istvan, The solution quoted by the earlier poster refers to typical files found in standard WP themes. PageLines Framework is simply not a theme, so it does not have those files referenced. It's a framework and therefore you need a newer, more contemporary solution than the out-dated one you're referencing. Simon is correct. Your page doesn't have the information showing on it, but by default it should. So, somewhere, somehow, either you removed it or a plugin you added did so. Since we have no clue what was done, we can't provide proper support as we'd both like to do. Again, please search for solutions relative to a framework and we'll be happy to guide based on that.

Thanks rangelone, Correct me if I am wrong but I think Simon says that the information should not be there as it is a static page and not a blog post. You are saying that the information should be there by default. I am a bit confused. I can check out what happens if I disable all my plugins, I don't have many, so its not a big hassle. I don't think I removed any informations manually as I don;t have the knowledge to do so. I will check out the plugins and will get back, in the meantime if you have any tips how/where to investigate and find solutions 'relative to a framework' i would be grateful. I would really like this snippet thing to work. Thanks, Istvan

Simon is saying that rich snippets would not work and you'll get an error for pages because they don't use rich snippets for author or date (updated). In either case, his point is rich snippets do not work in PlatformPro and do in PageLines Framework. Since there is an inevitable end-of-life for PlatformPro, I'd suggest you seriously consider upgrading to Framework, which would resolve your issue.

Thanks rangelone, Of course I use Framework, never said my question was about PlatformPro. If it was, I would have posted it in that section of the forum :) So, it is still confusing, sorry. Should rich snippets work with static pages on Framework or they do not work for static pages at all? I understand that the main purpose of the snippets is to enrich how blog posts appear in google search results, but I think I have seen static pages appear with rich snippets (for websites that are built on Wordpress) as well. I may be wrong. If static pages strictly cannot have rich snippets, what do you mean by "I'd suggest you seriously consider upgrading to Framework, which would resolve your issue"? Do you mean that rich snippets do not work at all with PlatformPro, not even with blog posts, but they do work with Framework blog posts, but not for Framework static pages? Thanks, Istvan

Rich snippets is for author links, comments, and other meta information related to posts, so it wouldn't work for regular pages. It would only work for posts.

Thanks Catrina, I am still very confused about what you guys are saying as since my last post I managed to get the snippets work and do have a snippet for my home page for example which certainly is not a post, it can't be any more static as it is.. If you google 'documentary wedding photographer edinburgh' you will (hopefully) see me on the first or second page with my homepage imagyarweddings.com and rich snippet displaying this photo I have got here as profile picture.

I did nothing else than what you do to get a snippet for a post. I have a rel=author on the home page that points to my about me page which has a rel=me that points to my google profile that has the above mentioned profile picture. thats all I did.

Hi there! :) I've got the same error validating rich snippets on a post page, Missing required field "updated". I use Pagelines Framework 2.4 with Simplicitate theme 1.1. The post I tried adding rich snippet and received this error is http://serviziovolontarioeuropeo.it/sve-in-germania-con-bambini-con-disagi-mentali/.

I couldn't find any other discussion about this topic.

Is there anything you can do to help me finding a workaround?

Thanks a lot!

franco, in future please open a new support topic, bumping a 6 month old resolved topic does not help you or the moderators, and the original author will recieve an email informing of your new unrelated reply!

But to answer your question, rich snippets work perfectly in 2.4 see here: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?url=http%3A%2F%2Fpross.org.uk%2Fcamera-test-2%2F&html=

It may be because you are using a 3rd party theme, in which case talk to the author.
