PageLines Framework Navigation does not appear on hover and top level menu not clickable

Recommended Posts

I am using pagelines 2.2.3. and Wordpress 3.4.1. I have enabled the drop down menu. I have ticked" Enable Drop Down Navigation? Enable Shadow on Drop Down Menu? Enable Arrows on Drop Down Menu?" But the main menu does not work if there is a submenu.... look at the About Us link. The url for it has changed from http://www.mapleleafsingers.com/singers/about-us to http://www.mapleleafsingers.com/singers/#m1. Also the submenu does not appear unless I click on the menu item. Viewing in Firefox 14.0.1

Make sure that in Dashboard > Appearance > Menus. Look under Theme Locations. Is your Primary Menu selected in that drop down list? Make sure you save settings. Does the primary menu have child menu items?

Yes the Primary Menu is selected correctly. The menu does have child menu items. If I remove the child menu items, then the url for About Us changes back to correct. Sorry I had removed the child menu item temporarily, but I just moved it back so you can see the broken URL in About Us.

Okay. Just visited the site and see your About Us page drops the menu to go to the Sample Page. No errors and the Sample Page loaded very fast and fully. The permalinks don't appear to have changed. Just to be sure, go to Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks and DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING... just Save.

@bebetoblu, do you have NavClassic enabled in your Drag & Drop area, under Header?

When I dragged the Nav Classic in the header, the menu works correctly. But I don't want the classic menu, I want the NavBar with coloring that I've chosen? But it still is displaying the wrong link for the top level menu (about us)?

Hi, Like Rangelone stated above, the NavBar functionality does not support hover over on menu items, drop down menus are active on click. Read the post by the developers of Twitter Bootstrap above and read their explanation on this decision. Regarding your menu displaying the wrong link, you will need to address this with your custom menu. I have provided you with a link to the Wordpress Codex that has more information on this. http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Menu_User_Guide

Well you guys obviously aren't getting the problem. How is it possible for a link to physically change in the menu bar ONLY if there is a sub item below it, and then magically change back to the correct url if the sub menu item is removed, without me changing anything in the menu.(...about-us to ...#m1). Obviously this new menu is seriously flawed. I'll go back to using the old menu and will customize the css to colour it.

This menu is not seriously flawed, we have explained that this menu is based off Twitter Bootstrap's navigation design. If you do not like this navigation, then simply switch to our other alternative which is the nav classic section. If you feel this is a design flaw, you will need to take your issue to the developers/designers of Twitter Bootstrap. http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/

Well then tell me why the About Us link only works when I use the classic nav? I want to use the new nav, and I understand the dropdown does not work on hover, but why would the parent navigation item not work when I use it, but if I switch to Nav Classic it does? I'd be happy to let you log into the back end to tell me what I am doing wrong.

Oh, ok I just read your other post for someone else with this problem and I think I finally understand you. So with this menu, the top level menu item on a drop down will never be clickable. Sorry it took awhile for that to sink in. Seems a little odd to me but I finally get it. Too bad, I wanted to use that menu, but my client is old school and they will never understand this.

Hi Tbeerejo, Yeah the NavBar would take some getting used to especially to users who has used to using hover to active drop down menus.

I just noticed that the new navbar too menu link is not clickable when you have child items under it. I understand this is the intent of the menu. However, what is the recommendation for the text on this top menu page that now can not be accessed. Is it best to just give the top menu items a title with no body text at all. Thank you - chules.
