How do I create a static page?

Recommended Posts

I have an awful feeling that this is going to be embarrassingly simple. How do I create a "static" page -- a page where I can edit the content directly through the Wordpress page editor? And once I get that done, can I still add sections to the page? For example, add a features section in the template area above the static page content? Apologies if this has been covered somewhere. I couldn't find an answer on the forums or in any of the documentation. Thanks.

Hi Danny, thanks the quick response. What I want to do is have multiple regular pages, not necessarily as the Home page or Posts page. I want a series of pages whose content I manage directly via the Wordpress page editor rather than being derived from posts. Is this possible? Thanks

Hi, Yes, simply login to your Wordpress Admin Dashboard > Pages and create a new page.

Hi Danny, I'm sorry. I know this must be achingly simple, but its not working. I have tried creating a new page but still cannot get anything entered in the wordpress page editor to show up. I have hidden all sections on the page. Tried it against different templates. Tried entering via the visual and html panes. Is there some setting or trick that I am missing? Thanks for your patience.

Hi Danny, As a follow up, I did find the following topic in the forums where somebody else is having the same problem. http://www.pagelines.com/forum/discussion/19423/page-editor-will-not-show-whats-saved-in-page...only-boxes-features-twitter-etc/p1 I see a work around suggested, but no resolution to the actual problem. Since it appears that I can cram my desired content into a banner and display just that banner on a page, I guess I am ok for the moment. It would be nice though to understand what I (and the guy from the other thread) are doing wrong. Thanks

Hi, In order to show your content, you need to have the following sections active on your template. So if you have added content to a page using the editor and that content is not displaying. You most likely, do no have both the Content Sections and Post Loop section active. Page Template > Content Section Content Area > PostLoop Section http://screencast.com/t/tyL4JI06Qle For more information, read the Drag and Drop doc here - http://www.pagelines.com/wiki/How_to_Use_Drag_and_Drop

That is what I needed! I thought the Post Loop was just for showing blog posts, not for all content. I am all set. Thanks, John
