Limit Post excerpt on only category pages

Hi! How do I limit post excerpts on only the category pages and not the actual blog homepage with all the posts. I want the blog home page to have post excerpts of 300 words long and the category pages to have excerpts with only 55 words. Thanks !

You'll need to use a filter for this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_excerpt#Control_Excerpt_Length_using_Filters. I'm not sure how to limit the change to a specific kind of page, however...

Hmm. yeah. That's the big question. I'd like my homepage to have long posts and my category pages to have short excerpt lengths. Does anyone have any ideas?

My work around : I sent homepage to full post settings. Then changes ALL excerpts back to 55 words.
