Glitch Broke Page During "Save Options"

Recommended Posts

Hello, After clicking "Save Options" on the PlatformPro Settings > Custom Code page, my website broke in two ways. There was some kind of glitch in the saving process - not a coding error. I say this because the change I made to the CSS was extremely minor and irrelevant (updating an element's padding by 0.7em), and after restoring the Custom CSS back to normal, it did not fix the problems. There was something that failed/corrupted during the save - like saving an open file that somebody is working on - which caused the problems. Maybe somebody loaded the page the exact second it was saving? Problems: 1) Main content is no longer centered, but left-aligned (except footer) 2) Feature images are hidden: you can see them sticking out of the left side of the page. (the first image flashes upon page load but quickly disappears) Note: The Custom CSS has not changed in months, so this cannot be the problem. PlatformPro has not been recently updated. Previous updates were minor and would not affect the website like this. It appears the whole thing started during the saving. Clearing WP Super Cache does not help. Has anybody ever run into the issue before? Thanks!

Hi, I have visited your website and you're using Platform Pro 1.3.1, the current version is 1.5.3. Therefore, I recommend you backup your theme settings (just a precaution) and then download the latest version of Platform Pro from your PageLines Launchpad and perform the upgrade. This should resolve your issue, also have you not thought about upgrading to PageLines Framework ?

Please search our forums, before posting!

Hi Danny, I tried upgrading to 1.5.3 to no avail: both problems still existed, and it created a few more, so I reverted back. I'm out of the loop on the PageLines Framework, but I'll have to investigate it later. If it's not the theme files that are problematic, could it be something in the database? Perhaps I need to restore a backup copy of the database, or reinstall altogether? Thanks.

Are you using PlatformBase as the activated theme? That too should be available via the Dashboard and is version 1.4.1. Danny was correct. You should be fully updated. If you were using an older version of Platform, likely your plugins are also older. Did you recently update WordPress to 3.4.1? Likely one or more of your plugins are causing this problem because they've become outdated. Check at http://www.wordpress.org/extend/plugins to see if the plugins you have are all up to date and compatible with the latest WP version. Also check to see if they're recently updated. Some plugins are made by hobbyists who give up when new versions of WP come out. For the moment, deactivate your plugins and check to see if you're experiencing any further issues with the custom code page breaking.

I deactivated all my plugins. It did not fix the problem of all the content being left aligned. It also did not fix the feature slider, which is still hiding to the left. (Clarification: the Custom Code page works fine, but I think all this started when I clicked "Save Options" on that page.) I was using PlatformPro 1.3.1* as the activated theme, not PlatformBase. I am running WordPress 3.3.2. It has not been updated in a couple months and has been working. My plugins were last updated about the same time with no conflicts. *I just upgraded back to PlatformPro 1.5.3 (I didn't keep it previously because I have some customized theme files I had to manually copy). In any case, the problem is still not fixed. Do you think upgrading PlatformBase, manually updating those files, and activating it (as opposed to PlatformPro) might help? Thanks!

Even if WP isn't updated, plugins do fail and so again, I strongly recommend conducting an audit of them for compliance with the current version, as well as looking for complaints or a lack of updates. I do not recommend leaving products outdated as that's a sure path to being hacked. If you have any custom code applicable to the slider, please temporarily remove it. The slider appears to be set somehow to 4px wide. PlatformPro doesn't do that, however, jQuery could be outdated and causing this, which is why you really need to keep things updated.

Updating JQuery did the trick! I didn't think about that when testing the plugins... Thanks so much! (I've always linked to a local copy of JQuery because I was worried their updates might break something, but I guess now I'll might link the script directly to the dynamic latest version on their website.) Thanks rangelone and Danny for your help!
