Plugin to customize a category page

I want to create a page to include in my main site navigation that I can customize completely... that includes posts from a category, but that I can add pre/post text to. I have created a category page, but from all the reading I've done, I cannot figure out how to customize them individually without a plugin. What is a plugin that will allow me to do this?

Hi, You could use the Special Recent Posts plugin, it creates a shortcode based from your choices of the settings. All you need to do then is simply add this shortcode to your page content area. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/special-recent-posts/
