Widget issue solved in 2.2.2?

Recommended Posts

Is the issue which I experienced in 2.2.1 with 'removed' widgets solved in version 2.2.2? So that I don't have to recue all widgets before upgrading. Especially in multisites, this is a large amount of work. Kind Regards, Peter Luit Netherlands

Hey Peter, Sorry about the troubles. The update would never "remove" any widgets. I'm going to explain why some users had their widgets "move" positions. 234 years ago when PageLines was first created, we built the sidebars function in a specific way. To be more blunt, it was not a very good way. But, we did not learn this, or realize this, until many many eons later. So when we launched 2.2, we re-did how the sidebars were drawn out. Previously, they would be out of order in the widgets screen. The order would differ from install to install. So we had to fix this, and we in fact, "hard-coded" them in place, and to be in the correct order. So when folks updated, the sidebar location moved within the widgets panel, but the widgets that were living inside of them did not move with them. Thus, becoming "displaced." Anyhow, once you have 2.2 running, and widgets in order, future updates should not displace, nor remove. If they do, let us know. But on test upgrades here, all is well. Hope this long winded explanation helps. Nick

@beardedavenger: thanks for the backgrounds of this issue. Anyway it would have been 'nice' if this 'solution' would have communicated a bit better, in order to prevent the unkown unexpected behaviour after upgrading.
