Newbie questions..

Hi, I'm new to pagelines, and new to WP sites in general, so please excuse the basic nature of my questions! In general, I would love to see some more practical tutorials from the pagelines crew.. not just a tutorial on the functions themselves, but a real-world application of them. In the meantime, here are a couple of questions: 1) http://www.danceyrselfclean.com/ - I came across this site on the forum. Can you tell me are they using "features" or "boxes" or something else (blog post?) on the home page right below the large featured image? I want to use the same type of setup, with a short description on the main page that links into a more detailed description with additional photography. 2) http://www.toms.com/'>http://www.toms.com/ - I found an awesome pagelines tutorial on building this site in 10 mins, but I can't seem to locate it again. How do you modify the headers to eliminate the margin at the top of the page? Is there a tutorial on this? 2a) http://www.toms.com/'>http://www.toms.com/ - Is there a way within pagelines to have multiple vertical slider's as seen on the Tom's main page? 3) I changed the site-wide settings for boxes to have frames around images. I would like to remove the frames on the home page, but every time I check the "frames" checkbox for that page and save the settings, it refreshes and removes the check. The framed images remain. What am I doing wrong? Thanks! Any help is greatly appreciated!

1. They are using blog posts. They blog page layout mode they're using is Magazine Mode, which allows posts to show in a format that displays excerpts. 2. You can modify the padding (spacing around an element) using Custom CSS and Firebug. For instructions on how to do that, please refer to this documentation: http://www.pagelines.com/wiki/Custom_CSS. For more insight on how to adjust padding, see here: http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_padding.asp 2a. There isn't within PageLines, but you can search for a slider plugin that suits your needs in the WordPress Plugin Directory: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to.

I forgot to answer #3. I'm not sure what could be the issue there, but you can try deactivating your active plugins to see if the problem persists.

Thanks Catrina, I really appreciate your help! On the "blog" page of http://www.danceyrselfclean.com/, are they using "features" posts? Or just regular posts? I was able to change my page to a blog format, and it loads in the generic post I created just fine. The problem is I can't see a way to add an image? Right now, it's loading my text over a black box w/ pagelines graphic. http://www.societyandcompany.com/products/

You need to add the image using the "Add featured image" option on the right side of the post editor page.

@catrina is there a way to make the blog posts half or 3/4 of the width of the screen? Right now they are full screen. I am ok with using a sidebar to accomplish this, but can't get it to show up. http://www.societyandcompany.com/products/ Todd

A sidebar will only show up if you have the right page layout selected. Did you check the layout settings to make sure you have a layout with a right or left sidebar enabled? Also, you need to widgets to the sidebar in Appearance > Widgets.

@catrina originally I set the site up with no side bar, but went back under site options and changed the global layout to one with a right-hand sidebar. Under drag+drop, I tried two things. First I removed all sections from the content area of the main template, and then added the features and sidebar back to the appropriate content area (on the right-side template diagram). This didn't do anything but give me a big empty space between the header and footer. Next, I added the features, etc back to the template content area, went into widgets and added some things into the various sidebar options, but they just show full-width in the middle of the page (or wherever they are ordered in the sections within the template). Also, I deactivated all of the plugins and still cannot get the frame to disappear from the boxes on the main page. I did get the header pad sorted out, so at least something was accomplished today! Thanks again Todd

Todd, there were 3 key elements for the Content Area... Post Loop (critical as it contains the post info), Comments (optional) and Posts/Page Navigation (helping you go from current to previous or next posts. The Post Loop really should be in the template or you won't see content there. For boxes to work, you need to have them in the template, but also must set up a Box set, and include info in the boxes you create via Dashboard > Boxes. To get 2 columns of posts, under Dashboard > PageLines > Site Options > Blog And Posts select Magazine Layout and below, select a number of full width posts. If you only want half-width (magazine mode), select 0 for the number of full width.

Ok! Thanks for your help, I am finally getting the hang of this and have the page kind of looking the way I wanted (http://www.societyandcompany.com/products). The "products" page is currently set to be a "blog" page. Is that the best way to set it up assuming I like this layout? I want to have the same type of layout for several different pages, each page having unique content. The idea being that there is a teaser image and text on the main page that you can click into for more information. If I can only have one "blog" page, how would I achieve this on additional pages?

Hi First you have to upload the images all the same height as feature image in your posts. Then Go Pageline > Site options Select in: Select Post Layout Mode > Magazine Layout Mode in: Feature Post Excerpt Mode > On top in: Clip Excerpt Mode > On Top in: Full Width Posts (Magazine Layout Mode Only) > Number of Full Width Posts? > 0 In the Drag & Drop Template Setup you set Content Area for the Page you choose as "Post Page" Quickslider PostLoop I hope you serve

Thanks Batman, that's basically what I did for the "products" page and it works great. Now, I want to use the same format for another page I'm calling "projects". Here the main page should show the teaser for several different "posts" that can be clicked into. The content for the posts on this page will be assigned a unique category - different from the first page I set up. The products page only seems to work correctly because I set it up as a "posts" page under settings>reading. How can I call specific categories of posts into the new "projects" page if it is a static, non-post page? OR, how can I make it a posts page?

I think the only way to turn a regular page into a "posts page" would be to edit the template code. This will require customization that goes beyond the scope of this forum and if you're uncomfortable with trying to implement it yourself, so contacting a Pro would be advised: http://pagelines.com/pros
