Unknown Twitter Error

Recommended Posts

handsomfreddy

Hello - I have been receiving an Unknown Twitter Error on my site. I have read the posts regarding the pooled IP addresses and Twitter's API Blocking certain abusive IPs, however I have another page on my site that is using a third party plugin with no authentication that is pulling my twitter feed just fine. What could be the problem? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Andy

Have you tried deactivating your other plugins one be one to see if any of them could be a culprit (if there is one and it's not conflicting with your other third party plugin, it could still be conflicting with the Twitter bar)?

Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to.

Catrina: Thanks for your reply. I have seen the posting you directed me to, however, bad IP pooling cannot be the problem as I have a twitter feed on another page on the same site that is also not using oath authentication and it is working just fine, which leads me to believe it is a pagelines error. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Andy

I'll need to add this to a list of issues the developers need to take a look at since I'm not sure what could be the issue with that particular Twitter feature.

Catrina: Thank you for your assistance. Since your last message I purchased a dedicated IP through my hosting company and yet the problem persists. The "unknown twitter error" still appears. This confirms my suspicion that the issue is not IP pooling. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Andy

Andy, you would have to ask twitter why your IP is unable to connect to the twitter API. The other twitter widget you have there is javascript, thats client side, completely different.

Simon: I have already done so and I will advise once they respond. Any other information on this issue would be appreciated as it appears that an answer to the infamous "unknown twitter error" has not been discovered. The IP pooling and dedicated IP resolution that has been posted numerous times in the forums here and on other sites is obviously bad information. Thanks! Andy

There is a plugin called 'core-control' which includes http monitoring, so you can see the reply twitter sends back to the server, you might find it useful.

Simon: Do you have a link to the most current section.twitterbar.php file, perhaps if I replace the file with the most current one it will work?

The recent one is exactly the same. That wp debugging clearly shows wordpress attempting to load the url http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.json?screen_name=OstregaLaw&trim_user=1&include_entities=0&include_rts=1 which opens fine in my browser and im sure it does in yours too, but your server cannot open it. So either: 1. Your server i configured to not allow outgoing http requests ( outgoing port 80 ). 2. Twitter are blocking incoming requests from your servers IP. See this post: https://dev.twitter.com/discussions/1436 there is an email mentioned there you can try.
