Post Excerpts In Pages

Recommended Posts

Eileen Starbuck

I posted this somewhere else...but I think it was an old post. I have my blog...but I also have (3) pages (...each setup for a category) and I would like to have each page show post 'excerpts' for that specific category. ...with 'Special Recent Posts' I can modify a widget and put it in a sidebar, but that same widget shows up on each of those (3) pages. (...not to mention I can't seem to figure out how to trim down that plugin to just give me a category - it keeps showing me all of my posts regardless of category.) Regardless, I'm sure I'm probably over-complicating this...is there a different way of handling this? advice? Randall

Hi Randall, The key ingredient cooking up your SRP shortcode is missing... SRP's category option. Here's the code from my site's Magazine section under Table Talk:
[srp srp_number_post_option='1' srp_widget_title_hide_option='yes' srp_post_date_option='no' srp_content_post_option='titleexcerpt' srp_filter_cat_option='45' srp_wdg_title_length_mode='fulltitle' srp_wdg_excerpt_length_mode='fullexcerpt' srp_thumbnail_option='yes' srp_thumbnail_wdg_width='150' srp_thumbnail_wdg_height='150']
Note srp_filter_cat_option='45' represents only posts from category no. 45 (found via Dashboard > Posts > Categories (then mousing over the category title you see the corresponding number). If you also look at srp_number_post_option='1' that snippet limits the number of posts SRP will show. So, if you have 3 distinct categories, copy the code above, change the 45 to the number of each category and you'll have your posts by category and only one per. BTW, don't feel embarrassed. I must have tried this twenty times before figuring it out properly. If you don't want the images, change srp_thumbnail_option='yes' to srp_thumbnail_option='no' and remove srp_thumbnail_wdg_width='150' srp_thumbnail_wdg_height='150'. As for placing the code in the sidebar and showing it specific for select pages, my suggestion first would be to use the shortcode in the body of your page instead of the sidebar. If you must use a sidebar, then add Widget Logic, a plugin that will hide widgets from select pages in sidebars. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/widget-logic/

Thanks rangelone... I seriously think I found a less technical route in "Pages Posts". It's doing everything I wanted... Randall
