gcmprior 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2012 I want my front page to lists posts, so I assume it has to be a blog - but when I set the reading to front page as blog, the "home" menu button ceases to be my url, but goes to a sub page. Currently, to make things work, I have home set as static page, and menu works, but how can I get my dynamic posts on the front page? P.S. using Framework. Tried to find in forum history first... Rob 547 Report post Posted May 22, 2012 You can have a dynamic front page which lists your posts, uses the Default template (which you may customize) but this will necessitate a minor change to the menu. Alternatively, you should have a home page called Home or something other than blog, and a blog page using Static page settings. Blog pages are read by WP as yourdomain.com/blog which is the reason your menu changes. To add a list of recent posts to your static home page, I recommend the Special Recent Posts plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/special-recent-posts/ which may be added to the page using a customized shortcode. gcmprior 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2012 Thanks, rangelone - The minor change to the menu? I created a custom home item for the menu, which seems to work. Are saying that the page WP creates for this will use the Default template?
Rob 547 Report post Posted May 22, 2012 No. If your homepage is set to dynamic (not static) then the homepage itself will use the Default template. A menu link going to www.yourdomain.com should be unaffected. However, if the link itself changes, such as the destination of the home link, it may drop off the menu because WP cannot find the link. In the case of using a page called blog, for example, as your homepag, then the homepage is no longer www.yourdomain.com it becomes www.yourdomain.com/blog. My best recommendation would be to use Special Recent Posts for the 10 most recent, set on a static homepage and include a link at the bottom to the blog page to see the full list.
