WhiteHouse Pro Weird Layout Problem Final Figured Out - Possible Fix?

Recommended Posts

I noticed occasional, but not consistent, layout problems with WHP2 whereby column 2 ends up beneath column 1. The first time I saw it was in IE8, but strangely enough not in IE7 in compatibility view, on a netbook laptop. I could not reproduce it on other computers so I didn't report it. This morning this behavior appeared in Firefox, but not other browsers, on a desktop computer with 25" monitor. It turns out that resizing the webpage via the Firefox zoom function causes this behavior. I have duplicated this with your demo template. I suspect this is what cause the layout problem on the netbook with IE (differential sizing due to the smaller netbook monitor). Any potential fixes for this? I'm sure that many folks have their browsers set to different viewing/zoom sizes so I see this an important issue. Thanks!

We have been aware of this. I just tested WHP3 and it does not behave this way under the same conditions. Have you considered upgrading? Check the demo for WHP3 to see for yourself :)

I am using WHP3. I assume your demo is WHP3 too? If so, I still see this behavior even on your WHP3 demo. You may want to retest. I can send you a screenshot of your WHP3 demo with this error too if you want.

I tried again both in IE8 and with Firefox and the sidebar does not drop down beneath the content. A screenshot to what you're seeing may help.

No problem. To reproduce the error, go to your WHP3 demo. Select the "the blog" from the menu. Decrease the browser zoom ("CTRL -" in firefox). You will see the 2nd column disappear - it has now dropped below column 1. Here are the screen shots: Error shot 1: WHP-error-shot-1.jpg Error shot 2: WHP-error-shot-2.jpg Hope this helps. Chris

I see. Before I was zooming in with no problem but I never zoomed out. So when the browser zooms out it doesn't take the border into consideration. Decrease the width of the sidebar by 1px and it fixes it.

Will this be a fix in a future release?

I'll take a look into this... it isn't "high priority" as different browsers handle zooming differently, and its real hard to get a universal solution.
