Custom CSS - no changes show on site

Recommended Posts

ecee

Hi, I'm trying out Pagelines which I just have bought. I wanted to try some CSS, but there are no changes. For example I tried to put a background color on the cart in secondary sidebar. First I had this "Pagelines Customize" plugin, and I thoght that might override "custom code" input. But I uninstalled it, so that should be no issue. I also have "Base theme". I have tried to target a lot of different things with CSS, but none worked. So any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I addedCSS in "Base Theme Global Settings">Custom Code (between the body brackets). I have tried several things, for example just: background: #d6e4e7; And I tried to identify different selectors, but it just didn't seem to work. If anyone at Pagelines would like to take a look, I could email my login data, and if you then maybe could insert some sample css for that background, that might be good. If that's possible, please advise where to email. Thanks!

You don't add anything between the body brackets. Each element needs to be added separately. You can actually delete the body and it's brackets as they are not needed.
background: #d6e4e7;
... will not work because you're not telling it what you want to have that background color. All CSS properties need a class or ID associated with them. For example:
p { font-size: 14px; }
Keep in mind we can't design your site for you so if you need CSS help, make sure you've downloaded Firebug for Firefox and check out W3 Schools for more info. Hi, Maybe I should say that I have Jigoshop also. Do I find classes differently then? I would really like to understand what's wrong so that I can get started with some CSS here. Thanks!

Using FireFox with FireBug I located the item for Cart in the Secondary Menu:
• Cart
  •
If this is correct then you would need to use CSS to target just that element since you don't want everything else to be a different colored background. Here is an image to show you what I did: http://screencast.com/t/7zXBNIa2

    Thanks, I will read and try some more. All good tips. W3school is great. There I have learned much of the little I can :) When I wrote: background: #d6e4e7; And I tried to identify different selectors, but it just didn't seem to work. I meant that I was trying with background: #d6e4e7; with many different classes. None worked. Thanks!

    Thanks, I will do that :) It's far from finished though... Right now I struggle with the "add to cart" and checkout buttons, that are cut on the middle (line breaked) on other pages than products page. But I'll try to figure that one out. Thanks!

    Well, I just can't understand it. So if you have some spare moments I would be glad if you could take a look. Though right now I've taken away the sidebar showing of cart on blogg page (where the button breaks, the button breaks on all other pages than cart). Cart=varukorg. But if someone would like to take a look I'll put it back there tomorrow. Another thing. I know you can't help to much with customization questions. But maybe someone that think this is fun could help me to learn a little more :) 1) I tried to have background color behind each product container (with image+text+button). That worked fine. But I wasn't able to put a padding on it. 2) On a Product Detail Page I tried to change background color and add border on the description ("Beskrivning") tab container below product info. This too was not possible. 3) Menu left item color+ sub menu color - also cannot change. I can't understand what I'm doing wrong with these. Am I picking the wrong class (tried everything possible), or have I missed some settings or other thing? I just don't know.. And another question. I have used Loopbuddy with other theme. Does anyone know if Loopbuddy works with Pagelines? Is it an easy way to handle Custom Post types and layouts in Pagelines? Site: mediashoppen.se/shop Thanks!

    To answer your last question first, Loopbuddy is, from all I can see, from mid 2011, making it a bit older in terms of WP and PageLines Framework. Custom Post Types and layouts are handled internally, for the most part, and if you need to add CPTs, you can use free plugins such as Custom Press. We've had a few people use Loopbuddy but without any luck. See: http://www.pagelines.com/forum/discussion/15652/loopbuddy/p1 With JigoShop, did you install the PageLines integration plugin for JigoShop according to directions? The problems you're experiencing sound like it's not integrated properly. The plugin is available (at no cost) via Dashboard > PageLines > Store > Plugins. As for the customization of a border around the product description tabs, I think that question is best asked in JigoShop's forum as it's their CSS, not PageLines that would be changed. I don't know which element it is either but I'm sure one of their staff would know. It should be possible. However, my best guess is that you should consider hiring one of our Professionals. http://www.pagelines.com/pros.

    Thanks for answers! I used Loopbuddy as you can style the CPT layout with it. And I used it together with Custompress, for creating the CPT. Is there an easy way in Pagelines to style the layout/arrangement of CPT, and see which CPT are used etc? It really added a lot of flexibility for me. I had a successful installation of the Jigoshop/Pagelines plugin. Could it be done wrong? IF so, can you verify that by checking at something somewhere? I don't dare to uninstall anything now, as I have changed so much, and I don't want to risk losing that. If I would go ahead with that, I would need advise what can be uninstalled/reinstalled without losing any settings and things. Thanks!

    Hi, The issue is solved. Thanks Simple-mama for pointing out that I shouldn't add the css-code between the body brackets. It just worked then. Thanks!
