boxes,features,post and how to display like this

I just want to set up just like this site but not sure what to use for home page

Slider (heavily customized) and boxes, REALLY HEAVILY customized. On the homepage only, the feature slider is in the header, above the navigation. There's a footer at the bottom. Nothing extra, really.
