How to add plugins to BuddyPress forum

Recommended Posts

tsktom

I am using Framework, and have successfully installed Pagelines Sections, BuddyPress using the BuddyPress Template Pack, plus BuddyPress for Pagelines. Everything is working fine, but I would like to use some plugins for the BuddyPress forum. Essentially I would like for my forum to work like this forum, with one additional feature - the ability to add attachments. I see that Pagelines offers some plugins for bbPress. How can I use these plugins on my BuddyPress forum ? Or do I need to install bbPress also ? And if so, do I install bbPress before installing BuddyPress ? What is the proper sequence ? Also, is this support forum only using bbPress with some plugins ? Thanks in advance

You may want to look at this plugin and follow the instructions under the "Installation" tab: http://buddypress.org/community/groups/forum-attachments-for-buddypress/ By the way, this forum is actually neither BuddyPress or bbPress. It's a Vanilla forum: http://vanillaforums.org/

Thanks for the quick response. I did install that plugin, and it works, but there is not much in the way of error handling (if the image is too big, no error, it just displays the red x...) or re-sizing capabilities, etc., as there is for uploading attachments in WordPress. I thought that this forum looked different than bbPress; that explains it ! I've used Simple Machines for years, but it doesn't integrate well with WordPress, and I was hoping to use BuddyPress &/or bbPress as a replacement. Possibly due to the revamp of both, many of the current plugins aren't functioning. Again, thanks. Guess I'll look into Vanilla ! BTW how well does it integrate with Framework theme ?

According what people said in the forum topics it has worked fine for some and not so fine for others. (For more insight, try searching "Vanilla Framework" using the forum search)

I did as you said, and searched 'Vanilla Framework' and found that Pagelines has a plug-in so that Vanilla uses the pagelines framework theme - is that correct ? If so, I could not find this plug in on this site. Also, I see that I would need to use a Vanilla - WP plugin to integrate the users. Is that also correct ? Thanks for your time; I will look deeper into Vanilla then.

Hi Tsktom, The PageLines Vanilla forums plug-in (special theme) is available to Developer edition users only and is available in the PageLines store (within your Wordpress installation) not the PageLines.com store. Vanilla forums and Wordpress are two separate products, therefore, you will need to use some plug-in or script (aMember) to bridge the user base.

Please search our forums, before posting!

Thanks for the info. $400 is quite an investment, so please bear with me on a couple of simple questions and I"ll be on my way: What user bridge does Pagelines (i.e., this site) use ? Does the pagelines vanilla plugin just a theme to make the vanilla page look like pagelines, or does it allow for me to control the header & footer from pagelines framework ? I'm just not clear on how Vanilla is embedded, if at all. Thanks. Maybe I should start a new thread on this ?

@tsktom PageLines uses aMember for user integration. The PageLines vanilla plugin is essentially a theme to correct the styling, but also includes code fixes as well. I'm not sure what you mean about the header and footer. Could you elaborate?
