Child Pages not linking correctly in Menus

Recommended Posts

questie

Please not the URL is for test site. Any pages that I have set up as a child page won't link in the primary nav. I've checked the menus and they are pointing to the right page. If I change the child page to a Primary Page (i.e. no parent) then it works in the menu.

SOrry meant to say "Please Note" not "please not"

I clicked through a bunch of links on your navigation and I don't notice any errors. What exactly is the issue?

Try clicking on any of the child pages of Solutions. They all go to Solutions and not the individual child pages. On other sections I changed the page so that it is not a child page anymore and it works. However I would like to keep the parent/child directory URL for SEO purposes.

What happens when you don't use the custom structure/page name option in Permalinks? Do the Solutions subpages still lead to the Solutions page?

Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to.

The only way the menu link properly is to put all pages as a Parent Page. Rackspace says Yoast SEO may be causing the error in the parent/child slug working. When I turn off Yaost SEO I get 404 error on everypage. I've used Yaost with parent/child structure on other WP sites with no problem at all. In fact it's the best plugin in my toolbox.

Why don't you just create a custom menu? This feature is built in to Wordpress and works much better as it allows you more control.

Just rebuilt a new test menu and it still won't load child page when you click on the subnav menu link. Goes to Parent page instead

Hi Questie, Can you provide a screenshot of your custom menu please, with both the Solutions and Supplier Information Manager opened up please. I think the issue may be caused by the URL added to the menu.

Please search our forums, before posting!

You won't believe this but wanted to share as it's good to add to checklist. Permalinks parent/child slug in URL crashes when you have a category with the same slug. I had a page with slug "healthcare" and category with slug "healthcare". Also same problem with slug "news". Fix is to change categories so they don't match any page slugs!
