Create Child Theme the "old-fashioned" way...?

Hi, this is more a question out of curiosity. Can I create a Child Theme for the Pagelines Framework by following these directions from Wordpress? (http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes) i.e. Creating a new folder in my Themes, naming it something like "Pagelines_Child", and adding a blank style.css and rtl.css file? Would that work just as well as the Customize Plugin? I'm using the Customize Plugin right now with the Pagelines framework and it's working just fine. I'm merely asking this question because I'm curious. So, obviously, not an urgent situation.... cheers, mari
