Add a second navigation menu in the header

Recommended Posts

I'd like to add a secondary navigation menu above the primary navigation and to the right of the branding logo. I want a simple text based menu with minimal styling. I want some the the links to go to pages in the site and some to other websites. I can think of complicated ways that I might attempt to do this, but thought I'd ask you all first. Thanks!

Hi, The BrandNav section offers this style, it has your logo on the left hand side and your navigation on the right. Simply remove the Branding section from your Header template. You can also use two different Wordpress Menus, you can assign which menu is used where, by going to Appearance > Menus > Theme Locations.

Could I create a menu and position it Absolute where I want it in the header? It would consist of transparent PNG social links.

You can do this, using CSS, thought I'm not sure about the Absolute option. You may need to adjust left and right margins. You can also do this (since it's graphics) with a hook, wrapping the entire group into a div, then applying CSS to that div. See: http://www.pagelines.com/wiki/How_to_Use_the_PageLines_Customize_Plugin and http://www.pagelines.com/wiki/Hooks Additionally, if you look in Dashboard > Appearance > Menus, under Screen Options, you can set a CSS class for each menu item (check the box for CSS Classes) and then using CSS you write, style, align, size each link. There are plenty of options to do this. I don't know where else to start, but if you opt for either of these and need added support, please feel free to continue this topic.

I was able to use CSS to modify the BrandNav menu for my purposes. Instead of a text based menu, I went with images. But now the texhnique I used to hide the text with text-indent makes the width expand to display the text I want to hide! I asked this question in a new discussion here: http://www.pagelines.com/forum/discussion/18955/text-indent-trick-to-hide-text-on-image-based-nav-not-working#Item_1
