Feature Slider: How to show Posts (No documentation)

Recommended Posts

Michael_J

I watched the rather rambling, incomplete video in the Features Slider section of your Documentation (does anyone edit these or check them for content?). The video mentions that you can set it up to automatically show Posts from specific categories - and that they will 'get to that part' later in the video. But I guess he never did. There is also no documentation about this. So I tried, just selecting "use post category" and it kinda worked, but the background color is black and the text is all pushed over to the left 1/3 of the feature box, and none of the graphics from the post are showing up, etc. So I was just wondering how to configure this so that I can show - for example - the Headline, a thumbnail of the featured post image, plus a selection of text from the beginning of the article. Black text against white background, same as the base theme. This seems like it would be a fairly standard requirement for someone who wants to feature recent articles at the top of the page. Here is an example of how someone else achieves this: http://www.washingtonhslax.com/ Thanks in advance!

Adjustments in the settings and Custom CSS can be made to change the feature slides' appearance. Is this the site in question?: http://www.soundlax.net/

Hi Catrina, thanks for your response. Yes that's the site in question. I don't have the Features panels up now because the site is live. Specifically what I would like to show is exactly the same as that other link I sent you from the Woo template: In the Features box I'd like to show the four most recent posts from one specific Category (which I will call "feature article"). I'd like that Feature box to show (a) a thumbnail of the feature photo, (b) the headline in bold, and (c) a snippet of text that fills the remainder of the Features box, with "...read more" at the end.

You might have been watching the video for PageLines Framework, rather than for PlatformPro. Under PlatformPro, the option to use categories doesn't work, unfortunately. If you're looking for categories, you might need a different slider plugin or, optionally to upgrade to PageLines Framework. Other sliders are often designed closer to what you're trying to achieve than our slider which might require some customization. Some of the better ones may be found at http://codecanyon.net/category/plugins/wordpress where they're rather inexpensively priced. Alternatively, some great ones may be found at http://www.wordpress.org/extend/plugins

I was watching the video from within Platform Pro. It is here: http://www.pagelines.com/docs/feature-slider Not sure if you work for Pagelines, but you might want to update that . It's too bad you don't have that feature, it seems pretty basic to me.

Ah, yes, that documentation is outdated. This is the link to the up-to-date documentation: http://pagelines.com/wiki
