Text based phone number in header over brandnav

Recommended Posts

thanp73

I would like a phone # above brandnav - text, with an image icon. talking to way too many freelancers from odesk, they all say it can??™t be done in custom css, that they have to modify the theme files. you guys (pagelines) tell me to NOT modify theme files, that all customization has to happen in custom CSS or in customize plugin. What gives? how is this supposed to get done? u used to have 'child theme' but apparently don??™t any more? pls advise on a way to get customization done that will not get wiped out by theme updates.

I suggest the you add a Hook in the appropriate position (functions.php). There is a child theme available on the PL store (free). Download it. Activate it... and then do your mods in either custom.css or functions.php. Easy Peasy...

well easy peasy for you- I've been thru 10 people thru odesk each of which messes things up more, and been stuck on this 'easy peasy' issue for over 2 months- clearly I don;t have any quality contractors. and quite clearly, I have no code abilities on my own. I'm quite willign to pay for someone to do this and other things, but it's been virtually impossible to get this done. if anyone is for hire and can do this please pm or skype or email me. my user name, on skype and at gmail. thanks

@thanp73: Keep in mind that PL is a notch up from regular WP. And the way the Platform implements things like you are asking for is more complicated than it may be elsewhere. But the added flexibility is worth the extra effort. Unless a Dev knows this Framework, they will not know about how Hooks are implemented without doing some research. So don't be too tough on them. McKenzie's suggestion is a good one.

Hi, I recommend you have a look at this forum post, it should give you the information you need. I would recommend you install the free plug-in ActionMap from the PageLines store and enable it to see the hook location. http://www.pagelines.com/forum/discussion/14846/make-header-jpeg-link-to-email-instead-of-root#Item_2

thanks all- this is helpful. Is there the equivalent of an 'openhook' plugin for pagelines? I have used openhook for thesis theme a bit with simple text and links- the extent of my code abilities- and it's quite clear how it works . i had no idea you had these hooks for pagelines too tho.

Hi, I'm not quite sure what OpenHook is but after doing a quick search it seems like it's very similar to our ActionMap plug-in. You can download this for free in the PageLines Store. http://www.pagelines.com/store/plugins/pagelines-action-map/

When you clicked on the "Install" button for this plugin, did you activate it?

Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to.

yes of course, was activated- the missing sentence is 'once activated, when you are logged in and view your site you will see an 'action map on or off' button on the admin bar. Toggle on or off to see the available hooks.' now that wouldn??™t have been all that hard for pagelines to add into the description of this plugin, would it?
