Vanila Integration with Wordpress, Forum Etiquette, and the naming of things.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share some of my past three days with Vanilla. Much like Jackey here http://www.pagelines.com/forum/discussion/15952/vanilla-forum/p1 I am having trouble with the integration of Vanilla and Worpress. The paglines 2 vanilla integration works well with the theme. Thanks for that. Apparently I should also apologize for bad forum etiquette here www.pagelines.com/forum/discussion/16109/vanilla-pagelines-2-marriage#Item_12 But The words "Vanilla Integration" do make it sound like pagelines integrates the two, which I see that it does do that for the "theme" and meta options, but not seeing that the words might be a little misleading isn't completely fair either. A small note in the docs would have saved me that entire line of conversation with pross. Now, I also don't have the memory limit whitescreen problem that stoltz had here http://www.pagelines.com/forum/discussion/15809/my-adventures-together-with-vanilla-and-pagelines-2.0-or-what-to-do-if-your-website-turns-blank.#Item_9 I am receiving a problem with the "Vanilla Forums" wordpress plugin that is linked to inside the vanilla backend "embed vanilla" plugin. If anyone else is receiving a message after installing VF plugin in worpdress and entering the URL of their forum that says, Forum URL could not be validated and you enter every permutation possible of the correct URL to no avail, then this is the same issue. I have contacted Vanilla Forums and it may be that cURL isn't installed on my server. I have contacted my host and they are doing something about I believe. If that does work, I will return here and let everyone know. I realize that Vanilla and Wordpress integration isn't the responsibility of pagelines, however many people come here looking for answers when everything isn't as simple as a video says it is.

Hi njumara, Thank you for the great post and sharing your thoughts. I understand how the word "integration" may be misleading. However, the Vanilla plug-in doesn't work as far as I know, instead you should try the Vanilla ProxyConnect. I have provided you with a link below. http://vanillaforums.org/addon/proxyconnect-plugin

Hi Danny, Thanks for the reply! I am trying that now but vanilla says they would rather people use this plugin. http://vanillaforums.org/addon/jsconnect-plugin and, this is a bit of side note, but is the embed vanilla plugin unnecessary if you use Pagelines Vanilla Integration?

yes, but that doesn't work anymore and vanilla has asked people not to use it.

for all who are looking, jsconnect worked but my particular host has some wacky permission settings and slightly wackier customer service. All I could do was get them online and help with the error by removing the Vanilla Bonk message and checking my particular error there.

Glad jsconnect worked for you. "Slightly wackier customer service".. LoL. Maybe you should consider moving to a new host. :) If you consider this topic resolved, please accept an answer. Otherwise please let us know how else we can help!

i have! I have other sites on media temple and they are great but I am freaked out about moving the site, their customer service is pretty good though! and i think they have site mover now. Anyway, if anyone else is having a lot of problems with this, it took me digging through the Bonk message (after changing it to dev version) and going from there.
