Why isnt navigation available in page templates section in Drag & Drop?

Recommended Posts

Hello- on a custom template for my homepage, I would like to move the navigation down from the header to below the feature. I can remove the navigation from the header in the drag & drop section for custom templates, but when I select the main content area, only secondary navigation is an open to drag into my template. The secondary navigation isn't showing anything live on homepage using the custom template. Why can't I drag and drop the primary navigation into another area on the template outside of the header?

You can't include it in the content area but you can move it from the header down to the footer. Put it at the top of the footer and it's just about the same as being in the body. Which product are you using? May we have a link to your site?

Thanks for the response! The site isnt live or online yet - Im using MAMP on my Mac. Basically I want the following layout on the homepage only: Heading - Branding Page Template - Feature - Navigation - Content / Sidebar Footer All other pages would have the normal format of: Heading - Branding - Navigation Page Template - Content / Sidebar Footer I have the wireframes if this isn't clear...

The easiest way that I've found to put the navigation in the content (or where ever you like) is to use a shortcode. I have successfully used http://www.basvanderlans.nl/wordpress-plugin/custom-menu-shortcode to put navigation in the content. Simple create a menu (i.e. "main nav") and fill it with pages, tabs, etc. Then use the shortcode [custommenu menu=main-nav] to place the menu. You'll have to style the menu or use something like UberMenu to do it. But that's the only way in put it in the content. You can see an example here: http://blueribbonnews.com/rockwall-city-test-2/ (password is "rockwall")

Thanks for the suggestion, but I dont want to put the menu within the page/post content, just above it. Im sorry If I havent explained it well. I will attach a screenshot of my wireframe for the homepage below: This is for the homepage. For the rest of the site, the feature section (section with welcome title, text and photo) will be gone. As Im typing this, Im thinking this is probably best done in the function.php rather than drag & drop (although being able to use Drag & Drop would be best!). What do you all think the best way to do this is?
