"Above the fold"

Recommended Posts

mbcornett

Hey guys, let me start out by saying that I absolutely love the Pagelines Framework (I'm using 2.0.1 developer). I mainly focus on internet marketing, and I feel that it is important to have a strong "call to action" clearly visible above the fold"of a website. With that being said it is very difficult even with a small header and reducing the feature slider to 300px to fit a call to action via the callout or the banner above the fold. My question is does the community have any solutions to easily help with this?

Thank you for your kind praise about PageLines. I've had this same issue and find it rather difficult to deal with myself. The only suggestion I can make, for whatever it's worth is to include a 'faux' callout inside the header using a hook. I'm not sure what you have in your header, but I place a leaderboard ad in mine and allowing for branding, at 1000px width, I can fit the 728px wide ad with no problems. Other than the graphic in the callout, it's essentially two levels of text that can easily be replicated by placing the top line in an H1 tag and the lower in an H4 or H5. Rather than giving you the hook just yet, perhaps you'd like to evaluate this option and if you concur, I will followup with the function code as soon as you let me know. A small one line snippet of CSS will be needed to align it correctly and I will give you that too.

Thanks a ton rangelone. I would definitely be willing to give your idea a shot. Do you have any examples that I could look at? Either way I am definitely interested in seeing the hook and CSS that you are using.

Well, my site is epicurus.com where you can see the leaderboard ad in the header. I will post the code here in a moment.

Okay, inside PageLines Customize plugin, with functions.php CHMOD to 777, you can edit the file via the Plugins Editor and add something like this at the end of the file:
// add_action('hook_name','function name'); // ---> uncomment to load add_action('pagelines_inside_top_branding', 'faux_banner'); // function name function faux_banner(){ ?>

My heading to be changed

My subheading

PageLines > Settings > Custom Code in the CSS Rules area adding:
div.faux {float: right;}
Of course you will need to edit the things between the H1 and H4 tags and may wish to try H5 in place of H4. Let me know how it goes.

@mbcornett Could you post a link to a site that has something similar to what you're looking for, or maybe a mock-up? I'm working on a highly customizable branding section and would love to see it.
