brandnav in Platform Pro 1.5.3

I realize this is now an older version of Platform Pro now, but i cannot seem to figure this out. I enabled brandnav and want to use it as my primary site navigation. I would like to remove the duplicate navigation within the primary navbar while keeping the bar itself to use to separate the brandnav from the sites content. What is the best way to go about this? This is probably a pretty big noob question.. thanks in advance, guys.

I don't think you can really remove the menu while keeping the bar. It might be easier to just remove it from the Template area and just add some padding or margin to the brandnav or content area. Could you post a link to your site?
