Sidebar, Footer, Child Cats Missing in 2 Categories

Recommended Posts

Hi, When I click on the following categories in my nav bar: RECIPE TAB>GREEN SMOOTHIES>DEAR JANE RECIPE TAB>GREEN SMOOTHIES>VIEWER SUBMITTED SMOOTHIES and am taken to the respective pages which list the posts in that category, the primary sidebar section, the footer section and the nav bar child categories do not appear: http://blenditandmendit.com/category/green-smoothies/dear-jane/ http://blenditandmendit.com/category/green-smoothies/viewer-submitted-smoothies/ Yet the primary sidebar section, the footer section and the child categories correctly appear on every other 'posts page' in other categories, like this: http://blenditandmendit.com/category/green-smoothies/bimi-detox/ How do I fix this? I can't find any way to access these areas for a category, like I can for a page (via the Pagelines Section Control). Thank you! Jane

If you validate your site: http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http://blenditandmendit.com/category/green-smoothies/dear-jane/ You will see there is one or more unclosed or overlapping html tags on your site. These markup errors can cause problems like this. First I would disable all plugins, then you will have to check all your HTML that appears on those pages for markup errors.

Thank you. I clicked on the validation link you supplied and saw all the errors. Please bear with me: where do I find the HTML with numbered lines for a specific page so I can check for and correct the errors?

Jane, on the Dear Jane page, do you have an iframe? Check to see if it's wrapped in a paragraph tag. It shouldn't be. It probably got that way if you pasted from a word processor. This also looks like the same errors I helped you with several months ago if you recall. Make sure all your plugins are up to date and compliant with the current version of WordPress you are currently using.

Hi Bob, How are you? The Dear Jane category has no iframes. The Viewer submitted category has iframes and youtube urls but they are not surrounded by

tags or other tags. Wordpress is up to date and so are all my active plugins. If the problem is overlapping or unclosed html tags as identified by the validator, where and how do I fix them? Many thanks, Jane

Hi Jane, hope you're well too! Thanks for asking. I'm not sure where the errors get fixed because they could come from a variety of sources. One thing we can reasonably presume is that it must be either caused by posts or by a plugin that's specific to that category. The reason I say this is that the rest of the site seems to be working correctly except http://blenditandmendit.com/category/green-smoothies/viewer-submitted-smoothies/ also has the same problem. If there were a PageLines problem in coding, it would break everywhere and in each category you have. It appears to be only in that one category. Check the category itself under Dashboard > Posts > Categories and make sure you didn't capitalize or add any punctuation. You may just want to create a new category, attach the existing posts to the new one, then remove the old one to see if this resolves the problem.

Hi Bob, You were right about the paragraph tags. I couldn't see them but they were there. Thank you! That was the problem and I have now fixed all the funky pages. Many thanks, Jane
