How to get rid of a duplicate post

Recommended Posts

copypro

I was creating a post and ran into some formatting issues, so sent it to the trash and created a new one with the same title slug, but wp wants to add a numeral 2 to the end of the new post's permalink, specifically: http://powercurvemedia.com/sales-and-marketing-automation-2 The old post is in the trash - do I need to "empty the trash" or something like that to get rid of the forced numeral at the end of the url?

Have a look in post section and click on Trash and mark the old post and select "delete permanently".

The reason for this is that you need to 'delete permanently' like Martin suggested. The post is is still active and therefore retains the slug, delete the trash post and then click quick edit on your new post and remove the -2 from the slug and save. This should resolve the issue.
