"Blog type" page for just videos?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this is a WP question or Pagelines? I intend to post articles to my blog page at regular intervals. But I also want to post videos as I find them, but I don't really want them to pollute my article feed. I would like to have a page titled "videos" that functions the same way as a blog feed but only contains the videos that I post. Here is one idea I was considering: I could setup a page titled "videos" and then create a custom menu that links to the "tag feed" for any post tagged "videos". But, is there a way to keep specific posts (videos) out of the blog feed. I know this was a rather convoluted question. Any suggestions are welcome...especially better ones than I came up with. Thanks in advance.

You're on the right track with creating a page and a menu, but I believe to remove them from the blog page, you'll probably have to create a PHP filter excluding that 'slug' from the home page. I only know enough PHP to break sites so you don't want me helping with this one. hehe :)

Yeah, that's more php than I know.... I just decided to change course. Is there a plugin that would work in a content sidebar that would display either a gallery or list of videos that, when clicked, will play in a popup window? I use the subzane youtube widget in a sidebar, but it only uses small thumbnails. I would need larger stills for a content page. Another idea if there is no plugin... I didn't realize that you could put videos in "Banners" that would play within the banner without opening to a new page. I'll just change my Videos page to a banner page, create a new banner for each video and add it to the page.

Consider putting your videos on pages, not posts, then listing the pages on the video page. The individual pages will not show up on your blog.

My couple of cents... I'm trying to do something similar, but wanting to stick to the general direction that WordPress might be heading in have started using the WP Post-Format 'Video'. If you have not used Post Formats before check out http://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Formats. This has the added advantage of allowing you to have different styling/elements on the Post.php page for each video post. E.g. you might want to drop the sidebar down and allow the video full-width. So, now that I have a bunch of Posts labelled as format=video...does anyone have any great ideas on how to modify the tag/category pages to create maybe a different section? For example I might want to have two columns, left column of regular article type posts and the right column of video type posts? Presumably modifying The Loop to do something like this...
a video
If you wanted to run the loop and show only 'video' formatted posts then you could nuke the payload of the else: statement to do nothing. How to modify the Pagelines Framework Loop to do this though?

May have found the answer by own question (looks like pagelines framework awesomeness strikes again!)... http://www.pagelines.com/forum/discussion/15945/the-loop-in-pagelines-framework/p1

90 Minutes later; got it! A Section loop that will only return Posts with Format set to video. I'd never come across this tax_query before but it seems pretty powerful. Thanks to - http://wordpress.org/support/topic/post-formats
/* Section: VideoPostLoop Author: thomed Author URI: http://www.pagelines.com Description: The Video Posts Loop. Only includes Post Types marked with Format 'Video'. Class Name: PageLinesPostVideoLoop Workswith: main */ class PageLinesPostVideoLoop extends PageLinesSection { function section_template() { $args = array( 'showposts' => 10, 'tax_query' => array( array( 'taxonomy' => 'post_format', 'field' => 'slug', 'terms' => 'post-format-video' ) ) ); query_posts( $args ); //Included in theme root for easy editing. $theposts = new PageLinesPosts(); $theposts->load_loop(); } } /* End of section class */
This gets you a loop that shows ONLY 'Video'. But you probably want to go back and create another type of Loop Section to replace the original that ships with PageLines. The key is this operator in the innermost array (the tax_query bit)...
'operator' => 'NOT IN',
Thanks everyone for the responses...I think I'll just go with "special recent posts' and tag the videos. I like simple.
