PROBLEM with IE8

Recommended Posts

brightonkeller

Hi, When people use IE 8 (and maybe 9) to view my site, it doesn't even pull up. In some cases, it makes their IE say "Not Responding" and they have to shut down. I have looked through the forums for an answer and can't seem to find one. Please let me know how to fix this, as it is urgent. http://www.brightontheday.com

It's most likely a plugin issue. I'm having the same problem on my site. I assume for me it is Easy Fancybox plugin. I know it sucks, deactivate all your plugins and then slowly reactivate them one by one to see which one has an issue. I'm disappointed that my plugin doesn't work as that was one of the few that made the site look more professional.

You could try the W3 Validator - Make sure your html is all error free. It turns out my issue was with both my plugin and the way I was trying to nest some html in the Feature Slider. http://validator.w3.org/ What version of IE do you have?

fyi. I had one problem not reported yet, because I have to double check. The section called "content box" made my blog page sidebars load under the magazine style blog entries. after removing that, from THAT position IE9 loaded ok for me. But the werid part is that on my neighbors computer..it loaded ok with the same version browser. bottom line, though, IE8 and 9 are terrible browsers. I don't care what the reviewers say. It is slow, unresponsive and difficult to design for. They are bragging about the look when all they did was copy Chrome. At this point in time...Chrome is the most fun to browse, with and Firefox is the best to design with. IMHO. For my way of thinking, we are ahead of the pack with 2.0...and there is a price to pay when you are racing out in front...there will be bugs.

You're probably right, but a lot of people still use IE 8 and so I want to fix the problem. Could someone help me who knows the answer? http://www.brightontheday.com

It is coming up in IE9, ok, for me. The light text is vanishing into the white background and barely readable, but thats probably just me. Otherwise it looks fine. Because of the large amount of posts you are featuring and the heavy use of graphics...you might consider cutting down on the number of graphics, because it might be causing a memory problem?

Ok Yea, I understand. would it help if I made my images smaller? Also, would it help if I show less posts per page? I know it works for IE9, but it doesn't work for IE8!

You can try making the images smaller and displaying less posts per page to see if that works better.

Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to.
