How to: put a downloadable file into a website

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I've been charged with creating a website that includes some landing pages. On the landing pages we'll be offering informative PDF's in exchange for a potential lead's email address, so that we can grow our database. What I want is to be able to create a form, then when people submit their details in that form it takes them to a new page where they can download the PDF they're after. How do I put a downloadable PDF into a webpage that someone can click on and it will download? Sorry if this is basic... I have absolutely no experience at all with making websites... Thanks!!!

its not really a theme question - if you are building a email list you are best off using something like aweber.com

This is actually quite simple. Either find a script or a plugin that has an email/subscribe/signup form that has a success/thank you page where you can make the success/thank you page a direct link to the PDF: http://www.website.com/whatever.pdf or zip the PDF and link to http://www.website.com/whatever.zip or have it link to a page http://www.website.com/whatever/ with a thank you message and download now link. Sorry, I can't provide more hands on help than that. Thanks, Bryan
