Integration of BBPress

Recommended Posts

sdrobles

I'm having some major problems integrating BBPress to my site. I've hired a developer to do it, and he says it can't be done. I'm really at a loss here. I'm not a developer and have little experience. And I bought Platform Pro and spent all of this time creating my site because I thought it would be easy AND I was specifically sold on the forum. The forum is really all I wanted. Now, I'm out a few hundred for the developer's time in addition to what I paid for the theme. Please help me. This is my site: http://216.172.188.244/~sdrobles/

Did the developer follow the instructions for the forum here?: http://www.pagelines.com/docs/bbpress-forums. Did the developer say anything more about the issues he was having with installation?

Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to.

he said he followed all of your directions and said that he found a document by pagelines stating the bbpress was not compatible with platform pro and that i was sold and something that wasn't possible. i tried to follow the instructions you gave me, but i'm lost. bbpress is installed, is it right? i can't figure out how to add subscribers and i also cant figure out how to take out the extra "forums" in the breadcrumbs. i don't know why there are breadcrumbs ... i have the set up without breadcrumbs on the general set up of platform pro. is there any way to get step by step instructions from you? this has been going on a while and i'm at a point where i'm about to give up. In the "Registration" section of the link you sent, I don't see where to find the "wordpress integration" section or "user role maps"? I'm sorry ... I'm sure this is basic, but I'm on my own now, as I cannot afford to pay anyone else.

Could you tell me if you're using a special add on to PlatformPro for bbPress? Are you using bbPress 2.x (a plugin)? Our integration was setup for bbPress 1.1, but since it was modified to a plugin, there have been some unfortunate breakdowns in the integration. I understand bbPress' developers will be working on it shortly, but for the moment, there remain some difficulties with some things like alignments and breadcrumbs, even metabars (author, comment links). There are ways to fix most of them with some customization. At present, we're recommending Vanilla forums (http://www.vanillaforums.org) which I think you'll like. In fact, this is Vanilla forums.

On the plugins section in the dashboard it says that bbpress version 2.0.1 was installed. I love the look of the vanilla forums, unfortunately, I can't afford the extra cost. I guess I don't mind the breadcrumbs as much, but I don't know how to make the forum open to new registers? As it is now, no one could register to use the forum. How can I do that? Should I try to integrate bbpress 1.1? What happens if it doesn't work? Do I lose what I have now? I'm not as concerned with the look of it, and more concerned with the functionality of it. I really just need it to be simple, nothing fancy. What do you recommend? Also, do I click on "thanks" in your comments? I see it's highlighted in green?

Vanillaforums.com is like Wordpress.com. Hosted elsewhere. Go to http://www.vanillaforums.org for the free selfhosted version. Unfortunately, we're having some technical difficulties creating an ideal integration with bbPress. There are some code differences that need to be worked out, which is why we're recommending Vanilla.

I installed Vanilla at http://www.epicurus.com/discussion/vanilla Feel free to register to see how easy it is. This btw, is PageLines 2.0. But it integrates perfectly with PlatformPro too.

the free version of vanilla allows only 30 members -- i have about 500 members that i need to accommodate. do you have any other options, that won't cost me additional money??? are there really no solutions to bbpress???

Where exactly are you reading that you have a limit of 30 members? This forum is the free version and we have over 15,550 members. Please provide me with a link where you see this limitation. Thanks. To use Vanilla with no limit on the number of users, you need the self-hosted version found by clicking the Download button at http://www.vanillaforums.org. The other option (a green button) is a hosted option in which you cannot use PlatformPro, and where there is a fee. You're probably reading the wrong information. Please click the orange button to Download Vanilla. If you need one of our Pros to install the free Vanilla version without member limits, please contact us via http://www.pagelines.com/pros.

I see ... the 30 member limit was in the hosted version. Thanks for that. I did contact the "pros" and this is the email they sent me: All of the information you need for installing Vanilla forums can be found in our docs here: http://www.pagelines.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_Use_Integrations This is not very helpful for me ... I don't have the developer version. Now what do I do? Please advise, it has taken months for me to get this forum up and running and I'm quickly running out of steam. And regarding the link they sent ... I couldn't even get past #1. Can someone install the vanilla forum for me?

It may be necessary to upgrade to a developer edition to get that add-on. I apologize for that. Only one of our pros can do that for you, not the forum support team, but, if you do upgrade, the integration is fairly quick and easy.

I'm sorry, but that's unacceptable. I've already spent hundreds of dollars trying to get this forum to work on my site, with the information that it would work. I feel cheated. And I'm maxed out. I cannot spend another $150+!!! Please help me find a proper solution. Is there anything that can be done?

If you'd be so kind as to write to hello@pagelines.com, I'll ask them to assist in some way.
