j0emv+ 1 Report post Posted November 8, 2011 Hi, We're a K-12 school and are using platform pro. We love it and are now trying to create a staff directory with photos, email address, blog links and phone numbers for parents to find teacher information. Anyone have any suggestion for the best way to attempt that using platform? Thanks in advance!
catrina 103 Report post Posted November 8, 2011 Assuming there's a large number of staff members (because it covers Kindergarten all the way through high school), there's going to be a lot of content just for one page, so I would suggest splitting up the staff into different categories to make for easier browsing. For example, you can have four subpages: the Kindergarten through fifth grade teachers in one page, fifth grade through eighth grade teachers in another page, ninth through twelfth grade teachers in one more page, and miscellaneous staff (principal, vice principal, etc.) in a fourth page (if necessary). These four subpages would belong to one parent page called "Staff" and the hierarchy would look like this: ->STAFF --> Miscellaneous Staff (for Principal, Vice Principal, Etc.) --> Kindergarten-Fourth Grade --> Fifth Grade-Eighth Grade --> Ninth Grade-Twelfth Grade The parent page "STAFF" would be a menu item in your main navigation bar and when moused over, a dropdown menu will appear showing the subpages. Each subpage would have one box set (dedicated to a staff category - for organizing your boxes efficiently) and each box set would have a box. Each box will be dedicated to a staff member (it will include the photo, e-mail, and other info you desire). The boxes can be arranged in any order you'd like, too. They can be laid out in up to 2, 3, or more columns. I hope that makes sense. Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to. Danny+ 1,327 Report post Posted November 8, 2011 Hi J0emv, Catrina's answer is spot on, I did a search for you however and found this plugin, now on the Wordpress Repo, it does look as if a few users have reported it as broken, although others haven't, maybe have a look at this and see what you think. I have never used this plugin before so I can't tell you if it works or not. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/connections/ Below is a link to a few screenshots: http://connections-pro.com/connections/screenshots/ Please search our forums, before posting! j0emv+ 1 Report post Posted November 13, 2011 I ended up going with the boxes, it worked out well. We're PK-8th grade so I created categories per grade level, then per campus, resource teachers and specials teachers. It took 2 days to complete but now it's over :) Thanks for the help!
