The answer to many issues can be found by searching in the forum before posting as someone else  may very well have had the same problem before you have.  Also, reading the documentation can help you gain a good understanding of how everything works.

The StationPro structure is a bit different from other WordPress themes, which sometimes makes it necessary for a child theme to be created based on the parent theme in order for changes to be made (please see more here on child themes: codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes). What customization/adjustment are you trying to accomplish with the index page?

I want various parts of the site to be on the front page - at the moment i have to have all the sections in the header in order for them to show up. Im confused as to why the front page isn't just set up like the other page templates. im sure there is a good reason for it.. thanks for your prompt response,.

Which sections are you referring to? I'm sure someone else can give a better explanation about why the page templates are set up the way they are, but in a nutshell: the structure is different because PageLines' software includes unique sections that are set up and implemented differently from other WordPress sections.

im totally confused now! can't i just have a template setup so that it controls the first page users land on. otherwise the main content area is blank and shows the 'Nothing Found' message. Which template does the front page pull from is the question i suppose i am asking ..

basically i just want some text to appear on the front page to say what we do. i want it to be centered and not a blog post (with authors name etc.. its more a website than a blog. I am getting really frustrated trying to work it out..

The template that the front page pulls from is the index.php page, but that cannot be edited. If you want to add text to the front page, please make the index page a static page by going to Reading > General. From there, select a page from the dropdown menu (to use as the page of text). First you'll need to create that page of text by going to Pages > Add New) and save the options.
