rpacker 19 Report post Posted October 26, 2011 I recently purchased Platform Pro and am climbing the learning curve. I keep seeing references to Base but I can't seem to find any documentation about it. I understand the basic concept, but can someone point me in the right direction to learn more? Thanks! catrina 103 Report post Posted October 26, 2011 There is no specific documentation on what PlatformBase is for exactly, but it is explained briefly here: http://www.pagelines.com/docs/base-child-theme. To be more specific, however, PlatformBase is the child theme for PlatformPro (the parent theme). It's meant to work with PlatformPro as an extension of what you need in order to make further customizations to your site (hence, the name "child theme" - it's an extension of the "parent theme"). To put it this way, you cannot have the "child" without the "parent" so you cannot have PlatformBase without PlatformPro. Both must be in the themes folder, but it is PlatformBase that needs to be activated. To get a hold of PlatformBase, you can download the zip file from your Launchpad account (http://pagelines.com/launchpad), unzip it, and install it the way you installed PlatformPro. Once it's installed, you must activate it and make your changes there. I hope that makes sense. Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to. rpacker 19 Report post Posted October 26, 2011 Thanks. I already have it installed, I am just trying to better understand how to use it. Randall Packer Multimedia Artist & Educator http://www.randallpacker.com
catrina 103 Report post Posted October 26, 2011 It's used pretty much the same way you use any regular theme, but you can do much more with it (advanced customizations and adjustments in the files). The image map you want is an example of a customization. I'm not sure what other customizations you want, but once the image map is done, the child theme's purpose will make more sense. Also, I forgot to add: the child theme must be used because it allows for non-destructive advanced editing. Editing the files in PlatformPro may result in issues because some of the code may get messed up whilst changing things here and there, so it's best to edit files in PlatformBase instead. That way, the parent files in PlatformPro are left alone. Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to. rpacker 19 Report post Posted October 26, 2011 General information is great, but I really need specific help. Here is the code I want to place inside the Site Branding Section for placement in the header: Now what? I don't mean to be glib, but I am racing the production clock on a large multimedia project. catrina 103 Report post Posted October 26, 2011 To keep it simple, let's communicate in the other topic you posted about the image map so that we don't have to keep switching between topics. :) Please read the docs before posting.
