is there a name for the area under the posts on the index page above morefoot sidebars but still not the full width of the site (so before the sidebar)... here 's what i mean not here: http://screencast.com/t/EleQEtw2F but here: http://screencast.com/t/VYt95ksA87 under the posts and still the width of the posts (right after pagination), but before the sidebars (so just the width of the post list). that's where i think a twitter and/or FB feed could go on the index page of curetinnitus.org how can i put the feed there?

It's called the "Twitter Bar" area. I'm not sure you can change that so easily. However, if you haven't used both Universal or Full Width Sidebars, you can add one of them to the footer area in Template Setup. The background of one of those can be be set by CSS to match your desires.
