losing custom field data in Highlight Standard Template

Recommended Posts

rockyrockwood

Hi - I was just bummed to lose my work to the Highlight Standard page custom fields - image, headline, description. This happened (and happens again) when I update the text of the page itself and hit update. For some reason the custom fields revert to their original values (example content that came with the theme. Looks like a bug. Any workarounds? Page in question: http://www.energyvirus.com/services

Strange, this one probably isn't a bug; but the way WP saves the custom fields. Basically, for the Highlight template; it just uses the custom fields from WP. I have no idea why they would be getting wiped out. The page looks good now. are the custom fields getting wiped out based on the way you save them? Are you creating and saving the page before you start to edit them?

My workaround is to save everything in a text file. I can edit the page contents (and lose the custom fields). Then I can go back and add back the custom fields - as long as I don't put my cursor in the page contents edit area. As long as I do it in that order it works. Otherwise, bye bye custom fields! Oh well. I can live with it for now. And yea, I'm saving like crazy!

Is this problem only regarding that one page in question?

Well, yes as far as I know. I don't have a similar page elsewhere.

Are you putting anything code heavy in there, other than regular text, images, links etc.? Are you putting in any PHP or JavaScript? Thanks, Bryan

Hello PageLines community! I had this same problem for hours. Lost what little is left of my already-weak hairline. :) Tried switching templates, adding and deleting fields, switching to different PageLines themes, and many other options. Nothing allowed me to change already populated fields, and nothing allowed me to add new fields to replace deleted ones. However, switching to a non-PageLines theme (default twenty10) i was able to add, edit, delete custom fields without problem. So i thought it was a PageLines issue, but then realized i still had the "Wordpress Importer" plugin activated from the instructions to populate the dummy content. After de-activating this plugin, the custom fields work for all themes and templates now. So it's a conflict stemming from this plugin. Steps taken: 1. Plugins > Deactivate then delete Wordpress Importer 2. Logout of admin 3. Clear cookies & cache to get rid of any residual data 4. Log back in 5. Edit custom fields without problem 6. Hit "update" on the field(s) in question (sometimes i still can't hit "update" on the overall page without it reverting, but you don't need to press that one anyway) Hope this helps someone save some hairline or at least a few minutes in the future. thanks! jase

@Jase - Thank you so much for sharing. @rockyrockwood - I wonder if and how you ever got this resolved? Thanks, Bryan
