Typekit Integration Issue (probably user error)

Recommended Posts

I am new to Platform Pro and am having an issue with Typekit. I put in the code, but I couldn't find any clear instructions on what to do next in the documentation or in the forums. I think you put the selector in the advanced button like this: http://grab.by/b5FN (screenshot) In the source code for that selector though, it's using Droid Sans, which is what I have selected in my settings: http://grab.by/b5FV The typekit font museo-sans doesn't show up as an option. Is it supposed to? Any help would be appreciated!

That seems to be a question more specifically addressed to Typekit as it's not theme related. The inclusion of fonts in that plugin is a process of the plugin.

Thanks. So you're saying I followed all the steps on your end correctly? The instructions seem vague in the tutorials. I guess the thing that is bothering me is I am expecting to see my Typekit font appear in the font menu dropdowns on my platform pro's typography sections, but it's not. Should it be? If not, where do I choose where I want the font to be applied? H1, H2, p, etc. Pete

As far as I know... and admittedly this is limited, Typekit shouldn't be adding fonts to the drop down list at all. However, that's a question you'd best ask them. I asked our lead developer and his answer was "no" that the drop list of fonts won't be changed by Typekit.

OK. I guess I am just really confused about how the Typekit integration works with Platform Pro then. The Typography section of Platform Pro suggests that there is some kind of integration. Are you basically just wrapping the Typekit plugin into the theme then, with no UI controls? My question, clarified: do I need to go into the CSS stylesheet of the child theme to "call" the fonts I've assigned to my site? I assumed this would be done in the typography section of Platform Pro since there is a TypeKit section in there, which is what led to my confusion. Whatever the answer, I think the documentation for Typekit integration should be updated. Right now there is only a link to instructions on the Typekit side, nothing about what to do in the Typography section or CSS once Typekit has been set up on your Platform Pro site.

Thanks Simple Mama! OK I incorrectly assumed that Platform Pro offered more robust Typekit integration. Basically all that box in the typography section does is place the Typekit code in the header. You still need to find the selectors using firebug as described in the post you provided, and then add those selectors (in my case .ftitle and .fexcerpt) in your typekit account. There is a plugin I found called Advanced Typekit that allows you to add those selectors in its settings right inside wp-admin. I found this a little more useful than using the Platform Pro typekit code box... at least this way you can do everything within wp-admin. But finding all the selectors is still a pain in the butt. On my wishlist for Platform Pro: publish a list of all selectors used in the theme files. Thanks everyone!

I have never used Typekit personally so I don't have any hands-on experience with it. I assume that PageLines included this in the theme as more of a value-added feature, if you know what I mean. I will never use it, but I'm sure there are people that can't live without it. :)

Yeah I get it now. I think I just had the wrong expectations set. I would love to see them add just a paragraph about it in the documentation to reduce this kind of confusion, and if they included documentation on Platform Pro selectors it would be amazing. Anyway, you've been a huge help, thanks!
