How to get started with Platform base child theme

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have been using PlatformPro for some time now, I don't really know what I'm doing to be honest. I feel I'm learning little bits here and there and I've managed to get my site looking reasonably good. Child themes and hooks sounded so foreign to me when I started that I stayed away from them, but I'm coming to realise that I should probably be using them. I just don't know where to start. So I have done everything up to now without using Platform base child theme. Please can someone tell me how to start using it. Do I have to move everything from the 'PlatformPro' folder over to the 'Platform base' folder? Thanks, Justin

Here is what you need to do: 1. Go to "PlatformPro Settings" and save your settings by exporting them. http://imgur.com/P5mK3.png 2. Go to "Appearance > Themes" and switch to "PlatformBase". "PlatformBase" is the child theme of PlatformPro. This way your changes are applied to your "PlatformBase" not the original theme so when you upgrade your theme you do not lose anything. http://imgur.com/t9lCX.png 3. Go back to "PlatformPro Settings" and make sure everything is set up the way it was before. If for some reason the setting is changed you can always import the setting you saved earlier in step 1. http://imgur.com/MeI12.png

I'm back! So do I need to move anything over to the 'platformbase' folder, such as edits I have already made to the 'platformpro' style.css? Or am I being completely stupid? Thanks, Justin
