Add Widgetized area to header?

Recommended Posts

humanv3

Hey gang! I really need to add a widgetized area to my header as I can't seem to find social shares in plain .php format that give me what I want... has anyone in the community done this before? If so, would you be able to help? Just a new area that I can add a social widget to... (lol, *just) Thanks in advance.

Effectively, the social icons in the header are added as hooks, on an individual basis. I don't think you'll find a widget that will help too much as it wouldn't give you the appropriate code or spacing for the hook. Check how Jenny, one of our all-star moderators did her site (which I think is brilliant). http://www.simplemama.com/

Very cool, but I'm in need of adding some specialized tools like a Facebook Like/Send with friend avatars, along with a Google + and a linked in button... the default config is good, and works, but I need a little more ;) If I could find a way to put a widgetized area up there it would be perfect... *sigh, I wish I knew php :P

That sounds like some classy stuff. :) Friend avatars generated by Gravatar or Facebook?

Facebook. I've seen some Worpress plugins that offer these things, but I can't seem to "strip" the code that I need to place it myself... hence the widgetized area ;)

I would recommend contacting one of the Pagelines Pros and see if they can assist or suggest the best method. http://www.pagelines.com/forum/discussions

I did this pretty easily by using the Universal Sidebar, putting it in the header, then editing the CSS to place it in the right spot. It's how I have the different social icons on the "stay connected" widget at the top of the site here: http://www.inov8-ed.com You can see the discussion where I talk about it here: http://www.pagelines.com/forum/discussion/5366/custom-sizes-and-more-control-over-header-social-media-icons -Adam
