How to add dropdown functionality to sidebar navigation/menu

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I have a wordpress custom menu in a sidebar as the main navigation menu for the Platform Pro website I'm building, this works fine but I also need to add dropdown funtionality to a couple of the menu options but I'm not sure how to do this. I've looked for plugins that might achieve this but I've not found one that works yet. I have found the following which seems to do exactly what I want but I'm not sure where to add the appropriate html: http://woork.blogspot.com/2008/03/two-css-vertical-menu-with-showhide.html I like the way the MooTools Toggle effect works and would really like to achieve this on my site. I've used Firebug and then looked at the child base theme but that hasn't really helped with knowing where to put the code so I thought I'd ask first rather than muck around with it. Maybe I'm mssing something in firebug to see where exactly the code is? Or maybe I'm missing some feature in wordpress that will do this? Obviously if I do need to modify / add to the code I'd reather do it in a way that is recommended by pagelines and won't get overwritten with any upgrades. The website I'm working on is : http://www.simondesign.co.uk/blog/newsite/projects/ I need to make Projects, Clients and Us in the navigation activate drop downs below when clicked in the same way as the MooTools Toggle above. These drop down options will be just text links as the rest of the menu just smaller in size. The designers also want me to 'fade/grey out' the rest of the navigation when a menu option is clicked but I'm assuming this is the easier CSS bit to add in when I have the menu doropdowns working! Any help with where to pop the code or what else to use to get desired effect would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Tracy.

Hi Tracy, This is more of an extensive modification, and it would perhaps be best to contact one of the "Pros" to assist you: http://www.pagelines.com/pros/

If this plugin doesn't work for you, then Kate's right and one of the Pros is essential. At present, their response time is a bit slow because they're working on a collective project. I'll ask one of them to get back to you ASAP. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/jquery-vertical-mega-menu/

Thanks rangelone, I have looked at that plugin before when searching for a solution but I'm looking for a way to make the menu drop down below and push the other items down rather than menu items popping out to the side. As mentioned originally, this is what I'm after: I have found the following which seems to do exactly what I want but I'm not sure where to add the appropriate html: http://woork.blogspot.com/2008/03/two-css-vertical-menu-with-showhide.html I want it to work as it does in the Mootools Toggle example as in this demo: http://woork.bravehost.com/moomenu/index.html Many thanks for your help, if you could ask the Pro's again for me that would be great as I need to get this sorted this week. Cheers, Tracy.

Hi all, I just thought I'd let you know that I've managed to get this working using the the following JQuery Accordion Menu Widget plugin: http://www.designchemical.com/blog/index.php/wordpress-plugins/wordpress-plugin-jquery-vertical-accordion-menu-widget/ Works a treat, very very easy to install and set up and does pretty much everything that I needed - result! :) Thought I'd share in case anyone else needs to do this kind of thing. Cheers, Tracy.
