403 Forbidden Error whenever I try to use WHP Features or Options

Recommended Posts

I keep getting a 403 Forbidden Error message whenever I try to use the WhiteHouse Pro Features or Options tabs. I seem to be able to use all the other functions of the theme but these are not working for me. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! John

Oh I should add that I search on google and tried the .htacess fix to no avail as that prompted a 500 Internal Server Error message.

Did you guys just recently start having this problem. Usually a sudden change in site behavior is due to plug-ins. Try and recall any changes you might have made recently and undo them to see if the problem is resolved. If not, we'll move from there.

will look closer at this. Can you post a screenshot? or environmental information? You could also send us an email at hello (at) pagelines.com with information so we can take a closer look...

@arpowers: Just tried to enable drop down navigation and the error message was: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /wp-admin/admin-post.php on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Apache/2.2.15 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.15 OpenSSL/0.9.8m DAV/2 mod_fcgid/2.3.5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at marlinalley.com Port 80

Ok, so I spent a few hours today specifically on this problem: http://www.pagelines.com/forum/topic.php?id=1417 It seems everyone that is having it is on Hostgator. I also discovered that the problem is caused by saving a url. (for example to test this, remove any url like this `http://www.someurl.com` from all your options`) My thinking right now is that Hostgator recently changed some security setting on their servers that now prevents urls from being passed through. (mod_security) Moral of the story: check with your host about this and let us know what they say :)

HOORAY!~ After working on this issue all day, I finally figured out exactly what's going on. Hostgator has added some security measures to fight the growing number of WP exploits out there... To fix: simply hit up Hostgator via chat support so they can whitelist the URL on your server.. (technically, this is all related to some mod_security setting on shared HG servers)

I would like to note arpowers your fix worked I ran across this error last week as well. I simply contacted my host and they fixed it immediately. My host is HostGator which I highly recommend becuase of their awesome customer support. I will take a error here and there for the added security my host gives me. So thanks arpowers.
