I'd like to put my own custom background image in the morefooter and sidebar widgets. How do i do this?

I have a similar request - but I only want to change the background color of the widget or sidebar

You have to do this in Custom Code -> Custom CSS. http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_background.asp Get chrome to right-click and "inspect" elements to help in targeting elements for a background color or image.
