lmatanich 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2011 I have begun work on a new site and for some reason, there is no base.css to add custom code to (like there is with my first site). Should I add custom code to the style.css file? Or am I doing it right with my first site by adding to base.css? Thanks.
Rob 547 Report post Posted August 27, 2011 If you're using PlatformPro, you should see a tab on Dashboard > PlatformPro (settings panel). On that tab, there should be a box for CSS Rules. You paste your customized CSS there and save. It writes the CSS dynamically, overriding any other CSS in other files. Being a platform, there are several sources of style code. This method works best. Former PageLines Moderator, Food Expert and Raconteur
lmatanich 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2011 Thanks for your comment, but I thought the ideal way of adding custom code was by using PlatformProBase and making changes to base.css. I could do it the way you suggested, but I didn't think that way was "update-friendly"
Jenny 33 Report post Posted August 28, 2011 Maybe this will help a little bit. I have PlatformPro and PlatformBase installed. If it matters, I used PlatformPro first and then later used PlatformBase as my active theme (once I learned that's what you're supposed to do). My custom CSS file located in PlatformBase in called style.css, not base.css like most people have. Even on a couple other blogs I run, it is base.css. I have no idea why, but it is what it is. :) Hope that helps! Simon 248 Report post Posted August 28, 2011 base.css in the platformbase folder was renamed to style.css in later revisions ( for 1.5.x of PP ). So if you still have base.css you should upgrade ;)
Jenny 33 Report post Posted August 29, 2011 On one of my blogs, I have style.css. On two other blogs, I have both style.css and base.css. Looks like those theme version is outdated (I don't even see a place to enter my launchpad info for upgrades.. dang.. lol). So @lmatanich, what you need to do is export your theme settings at the bottom of PlatformPro and then you can safely upgrade your theme. :) ♥ Jenny :: Web designer at Simple Mama (follow me at @simplemamacom) Check out Share Me, a social sharing add-on for DMS that is super simple to set up. lmatanich 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2011 Just upgraded platformpro theme, but I should also upgrade platformprobase (v 1.0.4) too? FYI - I still have style.css and base.css in editor, but I thought upgrading base would wipe out all custom code.
Jenny 33 Report post Posted August 29, 2011 You can create a backup of your custom CSS in notepad or something like that. I'm honestly not sure if backing up theme settings backs up the style too; I don't imagine it does. I assume upgrading base will over-write default styles. So I advise backing up custom CSS file(s) to be on the safe side. According to the PlatformBase readme, the current version is 1.4.1. ♥ Jenny :: Web designer at Simple Mama (follow me at @simplemamacom) Check out Share Me, a social sharing add-on for DMS that is super simple to set up. WebWerx 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2012 I was confused with this also. A suggestion to Pagelines is to update the nomenclature here: http://www.pagelines.com/docs/base-child-theme as most people would chase their tails looking for base.css (:| PS I am running Version: 1.0.2 of the Base Theme
