How can i hide Features/Boxes/Banners from contributors?

Recommended Posts

Contributors should not be able to post new Features/Boxes/Banners. How can I hide this in the left menu in wp-admin?

You can accomplish that with this plugin: http://justintadlock.com/archives/2009/09/17/members-wordpress-plugin It allows you to specify (from the admin panel) which features which users can see/edit. (Be sure to download it from the WP repository to make sure you get the latest edition.)

I've installed this plugin. How can I make sure that my contributors doesn't see the Features/Boxes/Banners in the left column in wp-admin?

Can you log out as admin, restart your browser and log in as a contributor to determine whether it shows for them?

That's exactly what I've done. It shows.

I'm unsure how to resolve this one for you and would strongly suggest engaging one of our Pros to provide a custom solution for you. See http://www.pagelines.com/pros for more information. I am only suggesting that because it's the best, fastest way to ensure a customized solution. By the way, are these paying visitors? If so, you may wish to try S2Member available via Wordpress

I'm just starting a blog for me and my friends (no paying visitors). I have set up the friends accounts as contributors. I have a default configuration - nothing special. Are you saying that there is something wrong with my configuration? And that when you log in as a contributor on your blog Features/Boxes/Banners is not visible? Shouldn't Features/Boxes/Banners only be visible for administrators?

I think everyone misunderstood you. We thought you wanted to hide Features/Boxes/Banners from the published view, not from the Setup. Candidly, I'm not sure this can be hidden from them. I'll bump this to the Developers to answer.

I want to hide it in the left menu, in wp-admin. I'm not sure why it is visible for them as this is only used by administrators.

Can Justins members plugin block custom post types? Features/boxes and banners are all custom post types.

It seems to be able to set custom capability to custom post types: http://justintadlock.com/archives/2010/07/10/meta-capabilities-for-custom-post-types

Try http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/role-scoper/ Haven't tried it but looks comprehensive. Anything that can hide admin panels by post type will do the trick for you.

Thanks kastelic. But i believe that there is a bug in PlatformPro. Contributors shouldn't be able to create Features/Boxes/Banners. Only administrators should be able to do this. Right?
