wolfish009 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2011 1. I want to create a get quote page in my blog but i dont want to make it visible anywhere in the navigation or the footer. Just the link i want to place in the widget with "get quote" image and clicking will lead to that page. Is it possible? 2. When there is drop down navigation, generally when we click any pages in the drop down we get links : www.me.com/service/weird. Is there anyway or plugin you know of that will simply make it www.me.com/weird. Just two clicks away!!!!
kastelic 6 Report post Posted August 22, 2011 link to site? If you go to Appearance -> Menus you can create a custom menu, so that every page isn't automatically added. Make sure to set it as your Primary Menu on that page. You can also make a menu item with custom text and a custom URL there.
wolfish009 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2011 Okay!!! Here is the link: www.optimizingengine.com ----- Now if you visit the website www.seo.com. You can see there is a "Free instant website report" tab which takes us to the page http://www.seo.com/free-ranking-report/ Now the page "free ranking report" is neither can be seen in the top navigation nor in the footer. I want to do the same. I want to place such tab in the widget so it can appear in the side column in the home page. -----Again, if you hover in the services they offer....you see 5 different services they are offering. And if you click anyone of them (suppose social media) the link will appear like : http://www.seo.com/social/ and not www.seo.com/services/social. They are making it two clicks aways i want the same. Any Idea than please let me know!! Regards,
kastelic 6 Report post Posted August 23, 2011 Yes, this can all be done with the custom menu in Appearance -> Menus, were you able to get that to work at all?
wolfish009 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2011 No. I am having problem doing this. Can you please exactly tell me what to do inside the menu to have the services items like that of seo.com with two clicks links? doing it primary simply removes all the pages in the main navigation and leaves only the menu. Kate 3 Report post Posted August 24, 2011 To change www.me.com/service/weird to www.me.com/weird, you would have to change the permalinks. For creating menus: Go to Appearance->Menus. Then add pages (or categories) from the left hand sidebar (of that page). Each one has a checkbox next to it. You check the ones you want, and then select "Add to Menu". Then click "Save Menu". Note that you'll also need to assign this to be the "primary nav" in the top left corner of the page. (There's a dropdown to choose the menu you just created.) wolfish009 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2011 Yeah i did the same thing to one of my tab that has child pages but when i did so everything else on the navigation disappeared and only the pages created from the menu was located. Especially when i set it as primary. So, does this mean i have to add every pages from menu if i need that link or there is other option too. Thanks!
Rob 547 Report post Posted August 24, 2011 Once you select Primary as your prime navigation, and you don't have "Automatically add new top-level pages" checked, all new pages must be added manually and you have to design and structure the hierarchy of your menu. It will not be done automatically. Leaving that option checked will allow new pages (not posts) to be added automatically, but each will be a 1st tier menu item. They will not be made the child or grandchild without manual intervention. Once you set it to primary, the reason your menu disappeared was that you were using a new menu. You create the Primary menu. It's not done automatically. Former PageLines Moderator, Food Expert and Raconteur
