Recommended Posts

I am making progress with my site a step at a time and would appreciate guidance/assistance on the following: iBlogPro 1. I deleted the Welcome tab under iBlogPro >> Theme Options and would like to get it back. How can I restore the tab? 2. When trying to import a Calendar widget and Contact widget downloaded from http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Widgets,'>http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Widgets, I get the message ???Sorry there has been an error. This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number.??? How can I import these widgets? 3. I have found a contact widget and an ???Online Free Quote??? widget I would like to use on my site at http://www.belairlanguages.com, which looks to me like a WordPress site. If these are WordPress or WordPress compatible widgets, can you please let me know where I can get them? PlatformPro 1. I deleted the Calendar widget included with PlatformPro and would like to get it back. How can I get it back? 2. As above, when trying to import a Calendar widget and Contact widget downloaded from http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Widgets,'>http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Widgets, I get the message ???Sorry there has been an error. This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number.??? How can I import these widgets? I would much appreciate guidance/assistance. Rob G

Rob, I'll try to help with a few of these issues. The form you see to get a free quote is simply a form widget in a sidebar. There are plugins that do this for you, or at least give you the tools to customize your own forms. I believe cFormsII which Pagelines works well with does this. When you say you deleted the Calendar Widget, do you mean you deleted it from the widget page entirely? Have you looked lower on the page under Inactive Widgets? The calendar widget is actually not theme specific, but included with Wordpress. As for downloading widgets... most people get confused about the terminology. You actually download a plugin from http//www.wordpress.org/extend/plugins and that creates the widget. Once installed, a widget drag and drop option will appear in Appearances > Widgets. To make it function on your site, you need to drag and drop the widget to the applicable sidebar or footer depending on the theme. Unlike other sections of Wordpress, Appearances > Widgets doesn't require you to save anything. It just works immediately. I'm not sure how you replace a deleted part of a theme's settings. You may just need to shut your browser down and restart. It could just be missing in the cache. The same may apply for other things you might have deleted. Let us know how you do!

Many thanks Rangelone! Your note is clear and greatly appreciated. I would otherwise still be trying to understand why the downloaded "widgets" (plugins) were not importing and showing up as widgets. I have found instructions on how to code the plugins and am looking forward to trying my hand. I took your advice and pulled a cform widget into the side bar and am still working with cFormsII to get the look and feel I am looking for. This too will certainly work out. As for retrieving the deleted welcome tab and widgets, which unfortunately are not to be found under the inactive widgets, can this be accomplished by reinstalling/reimporting the themes, iBlogPro and PlatformPro, without loosing the work I have already done? I'm afraid they were deleted so long ago that they are not in the cache. Thanks again!
