Is there a way to display the most recent 3 posts from 3 different categories on a page?

I'd like to have a page where I display a category (not list of posts) with thumbs and excerpts. I'm trying to do something like they do in this theme with shortcodes: http://kaptinlin.com/themes/striking/shortcodes/blog-posts/ Is this possible? Stephen

I think it'd be possible if you created a regular page with short codes that allow you to specify the 3 different categories you want to grab the individual posts from. The formatting/styling, on the other hand, will need to be handled using CSS. Here's sample code you'd paste into a regular page to display a post from one specific category:

[get_posts category="IDNUMBERFORCATEGORY" numberposts=1]

Does that make sense so far?
