Keith Vaugh+ 16 Report post Posted August 15, 2011 Is it possible to have pages that don't appear in the main navigation bar? i.e. hidden pages that you need the URL for.
Rob 547 Report post Posted August 15, 2011 Keith, Pages are only automatically sent to the menu when two variables are present. 1. You didn't set up a Primary Menu. 2. You have the option checked for a Primary Menu to include pages automatically. Do you have a Primary Menu set up? If you need help with setting up a Primary menu, please let us know. Post a link to your site, please. Former PageLines Moderator, Food Expert and Raconteur
Keith Vaugh+ 16 Report post Posted August 16, 2011 What is the primary menu, where is it located? I haven't come across it before...
Rob 547 Report post Posted August 16, 2011 This is standard in all Wordpress. Logged in as Admin, on the left side of the screen, under Appearances, you'll see a link that says "Menus". Click that. At the top of the screen, you should see a "+" and below it, a dialog box. Type in a name for your primary menu. For my site I use Primary. Once you create the menu, a little to the left you'll see a box called "Theme Locations". Now, in the first line, you'll see the name of the menu you just created in the drop down for "Primary Website Navigation". Once you save, that menu has become your menu. Now, you simply add items to the menu, either by checking boxes for pages or categories below OR you may manually create links and label them under Custom Links. Each time one is saved, it is added to the menu. Once the menu links are added, you can create a hierarchy, but no more than three tiers will work in WP. I strongly suggest using hierarchy to avoid a very wide menu. Save the menu, check your site and that menu (with structure) should appear. Rob 547 Report post Posted August 16, 2011 Oh, anything like pages or categories you don't want shown on the menu won't be there unless you manually add them. However, if the check box is checked for "Automatically add new top-level pages", all new pages will be added, so if you don't want that, don't check the box.
