text appearing in upper left side of upper bar of theme

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I have just started a new blog and have gone with Platform pro! What an awesome theme! I am having many problems with the sidebars as many others are, but I'm sure it's because I don't yet appreciate the logic of them yet. I'll work with them some more and follow the forum. This is my first post here, so apologies if I'm screwing up in any way. In any case, a question I would like to put out to any takers today is to help me troubleshoot why I have text appearing on the upper left side of the theme's top bar, reading "plus size article" in white. It wasn't always there, so I must have put it there somehow. Any ideas? My site is at http://www.plussizemagic.com cheers!

It looks to be located directly below your header code when I view your HTML source. Do you remember where you added that text anywhere at all on your site? Perhaps anywhere in your settings on the Dashboard?

Hi Catrina! (We have the same name, only mine is spelled differently!) Thanks for posting! I just opened the editor for the first time and as expected was confronted with a bunch of code I know nothing about, so I am not keen to fiddle.... There is no header.php file in this theme... I'm 99.9999% sure I didn't dig into that since uploading the theme. I looked through the settings and all sub-areas to no avail. Everything looks normal. I'm sure it's something I did when I was trying to create the articles page (which is where the blog page is). I remember originally calling plus size articles (without the s, but that could have been a typo..) I have no idea where in my back end to look for this. I do have a feeling it is theme-related rather than wp-related, but I could be wrong...

Hi Catrina. I "rejected" your answer. Is that what I am supposed to do until I can solve the issue? Cheers. :-?

I assume I could easily erase this bit of text from the source file, then, on my host server. What file name do you reckon should look under? Or might this be too "dangerous." Perhaps, once guided, I could find the offending code (difficult to find?), post it here, and get some advice on how to change it?

You can try that. I don't see harm in it (that text is really unnecessary, anyway). Let us know what happens when you do. There is no header.php file, but there should be other header PHP files.

I looked into several possible suspects of files on my server. I am either looking completely in the wrong places, or simply cannot understand enough to do this myself. I must have put the text there from WP backend somehow to begin with, so I should be able to "find and destroy" it there, too, no? AHhggg, getting frustrated! Any other ideas?

Hi, I looked at the code and believe this is a plugin. Possibly an incorrect setting in All in One SEO Pack which loads JUST BEFORE the phrase "plus size article." Try disabling that plugin and see if it remains on your screen. Failing that, turn off each individual plugin, open a new window or refresh your cache to ensure it's a clean view and see if it disappears. If it does, you know which plugin is incompatible or requires some settings being tweaked. This unfortunately though, is not a template issue. I firmly believe it's All in One SEO because the actual phrase that appears does so before the meta tags, in the header. You won't find any of this in any header file or setting. Little point in looking. Literally, the first line before the visible phrase is . To me, that's a tell-tale sign. Let us know if you need further help.

I do believe that yes, indeed, the SEO plugin was to blame. I tried to configure it before deactivating it, and it wouldn't allow me access, so perhaps it was poorly installed. I'll reinstall at a later time and see if it causes the same problem. I don't understand why it did what it did, but very grateful that this issue appears to have been solved. :)

Glad to hear it! Probably a styling or coding conflict with something else. Some plugins just don't work on every server or with every configuration. Please click the "Thanks" button so our management knows you're satisfied with my solution.
